Dual fans fitted to engine cover.

I see a few mr2's with dual fan fitted to the engine cover.

I've had two mr2 turbos in rhe past but never saw any worrying temps.

Are these connected to a thermostat or manually operated.

What's the benefit then.

I'm a firm believer that engines should be run at the appropriate temp so as to stop bore wash and excessive wear.

What am I missing here?

Is it a cheap alternative to a fmic?

I believe there beneficial on big power builds where you've got bigger turbo's pumping out heat into the bay. the rogue kit like the one torero just sold use a thermo controller, when people just use ordinary 12" fans id assume there on a switch/relay setup. on heavily modified engines id imagine there useful but at the same time id be surprised if a pair of 12" fans could cool a stock engine bay enough to shut the thermostay or cause noticeable running changes

nout to do with the coolant system.

it is to do with the heat generated in the bay from the engine/turbo.
by pulling some heat out, you help reduce heatsoak on the intercooler and engine components in general.
some claim it helps reduce oil temps by a few degrees.

In a mid-engined car there is very little air flowing around the engine bay. The way the 'Two' is designed is that air moving over the top of the roof creates a vortex over the engine bay, this pulls the hot air from inside the bay through the lid vents and assists cooling.

The Rogue fans 'pull' air out of the engine bay in greater bulk than the design and as a result there is less heat soak in the engine components. This does reduce oil temps a few degrees when in use for some length of time.

The good thing about the cooling system of the 'Two' is that the water has to travel under pressure from the rad to engine bay and therefore stays inherently cooler than a front engined car .

Well as someone who tracks their Turbo, I can assure you they make a noticeable difference in keeping temps at decent levels at a trackday.

Mine cut in via a thermostat and since I have had them fitted no ovrheating issues and I have done some trackdays this year in the height of summer, on some very warm days.

So, all depends what you want to do with your car?

They're effective but they also put a high load on the alternator. I removed one of my fans and just meshed over the hole. One fan is plenty imo.

They work well if you have the ST205 charge cooler when in traffic and do drop my oil by around 5c.

It's not great in my case with two 10" rad fans, cc pump & 2 amps plus the rouge spal.

The rouge spal and heater blowers have the biggest impact on my volt gauge when turned on.

In fact with all the fans on, cc pump plus headlights my volts drop to 12v at idle with the brake lights on. Start turning stuff off and my volts increase as you'd expect. Does make me wonder if I'll be slowly killing the alternator?

They do, it will reduce oil temperatures and in my case my charge cooler core is kept cooler. That's with just one fan!

That comment is like comparing a seat to a wheel.
What does a toms scoop have to do with a lid fan kit?

The fan kit is doing the opposite to a toms scoop.

A fan kit is helping pulling hot air out. Not trying to pull cold air in.

Have you been near a car running one if these?
The heat they pull out can be heard and felt!

Fan over the intercooler, goes off via the engine bay temp. sensor, Helps circulate air around engine does it not ? Or is it for intercooler purposes only

Brings in cool air via the side pod cooling the intercooler and engine bay. lol but i'm proberly wrong

Also several people who have these kits have removed their stock intercooler and have nowhere else to mount a fan. That was certainly the case with my car.
