After a flirt with a mk2 golf earlier in the year i stumbled across the opportunity to take on a MR2 project that had been abandoned by a friend of a friend.
The car had been imported, driven for a few years and then laid up due to 'overheating'.
All i knew about the car (unseen) that it was a MR2 Turbo T Bar GT import and it was black.
Money changed hands and then a trailer dispatched to collect it.
It turned up and i was staggered at how not black it was ... predominantly green and grey!
Completely boggo apart from:
Blitz Nur Spec exhaust
Blitz Induction Kit
HKS Boost and Oil Temp Gauges
Rev 3 rear lights
White Gauges
I gave it a wash and then picked through what it needed:
Didnt have a battery
Flat Tyre
Seized NS Front Caliper
Faded paint
Mullered Aircon Radiator
Leaking T Bar
No Radio
So in the last month when I've had the chance I've done:
New Battery
Oil change
Coolant flush and Change (complete PITA)
Refurbed caliper
Brake fluid replacement
PAS fluid swap (£40 a litre!!!)
Silicone roof seal repair
After all of that it started, stopped and turned the way i think it should.
So down to the MOT man today and it bloody passed!!!
Few advisories but i've got a new tyre to match the new NS one and the fuel filter is being swapped out too.
Overheating was down to having massive airlocks in the coolant as they are a pain to bleed properly.
Tomorrow the big polish starts ... see if we can get it looking right
So made the most of the nice weather and got outside to detail the car and get it looking a bit more loved.
Not bad advisories for a 22 year old car, all will be sorted soon.
quick wash , everything is better with pop up lights
JDM Yo! cleaned the interior and found some leftovers from 2004!
this was the state of the paint, faded, unloved and going to be a pig to sort
first pass with the Das pro and some Menzerna (first time using a mechanical polisher)
getting there
all done and ready for the mechanical points on the MOT and a few bits painting sating black (wipers, t top edging, strut braces)
difference from 6 weeks ago
got horrifically sunburnt but was totally worth it.
Unfortunately i have found out that the house we rent is sold and i have to move, the place we are moving too has no spare off street parking so the car is for sale
it really is awesome and so much fun to drive, just cant have two cars and dont think work would let me use this as the company car!

good god that is like night and day!!
excellent effort mate, it looks awesome
Such a shame you are having to sell up, but i dare say you will make money on considering what it was like when you bought it.
Brilliant transformation

Re: The unloved MR2 Turbo - Saved
Top job fella! Shame you're selling up after all that effort!
Re: The unloved MR2 Turbo - Saved
It has come out great, I'm really chuffed.
Unfortunately having to sell and once all my expenditure is taken care of won't actually be making that much, just enough.
Best thing is that someone is going to get to enjoy the car
