If you arent anal about having the correct rolling radius 225/50 works fine on the rear and to me it feels nicer than 225/45. The difference in the speedo reading is marginal after comparing it with gps.
McStrut suspensions work better with more sidewall anyway and the car rides better!
The only advantage 17s have is there is a larger amount of modern rubber available to choose from.

Hmm interesting, I guess that's why the RX7 doesn't feel as inert as the MR2 did on 17s as it has double wishbones all round.

Double wishbone is definitely the better setup, but its not like mcstruts are terrible seeing as bmw/porsche etc manage to use em.
the biggest thing in f1 cars before the race is the correct TYRE's anything else is to support the tyres and wheels so people talking about other stuff is really not gonna make as much difference compare to tyres.

I believe the best setup is tyres width front 215 and rears 245.

An Mr2 is not an F1 car. They also spend the previous two days doing all the suspension set up first ... camber, toe etc etc as well as ride height and spring rates etc. All done before tyre choice.
I think you'll find tyre stagger and car geo just as important as tyre compound for a properly handling 2.
As for 215/245 best stagger.... not if they wont fit the wheels and also a bit over rubbered for an n/a.

Also an f1 cars tyre is the most compliant part of the suspension, its a world away from an mr2.
Agreed the 245 is way too much for an na.

I would say a little toe in is good to combat the understeer as that is what im running and it goes through corners pretty well.

Couple of poor quality phone pics to give you an idea, if i put 225/45/17 on the back then they are going to sit outside the arches, unless i remove the 25mm spacers in which case they will (possibly) sit too far in!:
Whats more important to you? Looks or handling?
Stick with looks and put up with crap handling
Bring the rear wheels in 10mm, fit wider tyres and enjoy better handling.

They are nice mate, I'm tempted. Demon Tweeks only list a 16x7.
Theres a few sellers on ebay, if Team Dynamics make an 8jj they might be able to source them for you (ask demon thieves too, never know )
I know they do an 8jj in 17" .
No worries, I'd consider 16x7 all round with staggered tyres, but would obviously prefer staggered wheels.
The set of 16s I'm waiting on are 16x8 and 16x7 ET32 all round.
I ran 7jj front and rear with 17's (215/40/17 and 235/40/17) and it scared the hell out of me. I would much rather go 17" and staggered.
The wheels your waiting on sound perfect (maybe 5mm_r & 3mm_f spacers)
