mr2 turbo buy

Post by steve07 »

Hi guys,
Im unable to post pics right now but theres a guy selling a mr2 turbo rev 3 downthe road from me, its done 111,000miles, short shifter, twin exit exit, 9months mot, 2 months tax, rear sills have been welded, only problem is its got a small bit of rust behind one of the rear wheel arches, the guy needs to get rid of it as he hasnt got a job and cant afford to keep her, its the dark green colour and is asking £1600, is that a good buy or not?

Cheers in advance

As long as it is a good runner you can't really go wrong at that price, does the car have any mods ?

Sounds like its going to be a right dog, if someone cant afford to keep her and can sell for 1600 quid then its probably been maintained on the cheap and will probably turn into a money pit, some pictures and more details are needed for a conclusive opinion though.

I would also avoid a car with rusty arches, as MK2 MR2s don't generally go in this area, especially imports.

Could indicate poorly repaired crash damage.

Get under it. With a small hammer.

I've got 2 Mk2s with rusty rear arches in the garage at the moment (and one with the merest hint of the start of rust parked outside). Remember that if there's rust on the outside, the inner wheelarch will probably be (a fair bit) worse.

At 1600 it's not a real bargain, but not vastly expensive, either.

Cost up what you need/want to do to it.

if the rust is bad underneath then leave it but if its just surface rust then its easy to sort out...
