[Mk2] [Turbo] r-spec digital boost gauge

Post by calum4492 »

hi all
bought an r-spec boost gauge and having a little bit of difficulty figuring out the wiring sheet they have given me with it, I will try and make as much sense as I can when explaining this

wiring instructions for gauge:
red - 12v accessory power (ignition im guessing?)
black - ground (I know where this goes lol)
white - engine accessory power (does this go to the boost sender? if not what does it connect to?)
orange - head light switch (iam being told not to use, by the instructions)
green - boost sensor, connect to white wire from sender (also know)

wiring instructions for sender:
black - ground (this just earths on to the engine or chassis somewhere? i don't think this returns to the gauge?)
red - accessory power (does this need another 12v ignition feed? or does this connect to the feed from the gauge white wire?)
white - green wire from gauge (i know)

last but not least lighting diagram says for blue (day) and blue (night)
white - connect to acc. power
amber - do not connect
it also allows me to light it red but i do not want to do that

any help is much appreciated as the instructions suck a** and i don't quite understand them, nor do i want to bu88er my new gauge lol

Don't take this as gospel, but I would say:

red - 12v accessory power [12v Permanent Live]
black - ground [Ground]
white - engine accessory power [12v Switched Live - a wire that goes live when ignition key is turned]
orange - head light switch [Dimmer line - connect to any wire that goes live when the lights are on]
green - [To sender]

wiring instructions for sender:
black - ground [Ground]
red - accessory power [12v Switched Live (from the wording I would say permanent live, but don't know why you'd want a permanent live to the sender??]
white - green wire from gauge (i know)

last but not least lighting diagram says for blue (day) and blue (night)
white - connect to acc. power
amber - do not connect
it also allows me to light it red but i do not want to do that

Not certain on this bit, but I guess it means to light up blue, connect the white to switched live and leave the amber disconnected.

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Gauge

Your spot on with your guess mate did a lot of research last night and that is exactly what I came up with
Just off the phone to Peter and he also says that the sender should be ignition feed only because live constant will contribute to battery drain

Don't speak to soon Paul lol
Wired it up this way tonight and now the bu88er doesn't turn off even when the key leaves the ignition barrel lol
Any ideas?

On,y two thought really:

1. Swap the red and the white
2. Your switched live isn't actually a switched live

Do you have a multimeter?

Gauges

Post by calum4492 »

I did think I may have the red and white around the wrong way
This gauge is for my subaru and they sit where the clock sits
Yeh got a multi meter and I defo have:
Constant live
Ignition
Earth
Illumination
Or else my clock wouldn't have worked
I'm pretty sure it's because those 2 are around the wrong way but I will try it 2moz bit late the night
I prefer asking questions here because I get more direct answers than the scooby forms

Also Iv found on the net that I need a constant live to the gauge to keep its memory but I haven't started the car then switched it off only ignition
I don't suppose this would have anything to do with it?
