Help! Gasoline coming out of Airfilter?!?!

Post by MR2allan »

1991 Turbo 3SGTE - USA version

Drove the car to petrol station and filled it to half tank.

Got in the car to start it and nothing, no reaction. All the dash lights are there that are supposed to be there, everything seemed normal.

Engine did not turn.

Open the engine lld and see alot of fuel flowing out of the KN air filter...?

How is that possible? Anyone know what might be wrong?

Check the filler pipe, it runs very close to where the induction kit/air box sits. If the filler pipe is damaged or loose you may of just soaked the filter in fuel

USA version? Is that why you used gasoline? Try unleaded next time, and even better try the filler neck.

Yeah, this is mosty likely it. Either there is a leak in the filler tube and that has somehow squirted lots of fuel on the filter or some gaspump hose has sprung a leak and done it...

All I know is what I saw and that was a seriously large amount of fuel coming out of the filter... And that was some scary Exorcist type of sh*t.

My first thought was 'well that was it for this engine. It's dead.' Like when you cough blood. That's never a good sign.

Thanks. :)

Remove the air filter and pipe work back to the throttle body and try starting it, see if the fuel still comes out or if it starts

Well... sh*t !

Towed the car home, I turn on the ignition, and fuel comes out of the airfilter... Alot of fuel, steady stream. I can hear the fuelpump going..

I turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery, and the stream of fuel eventually dies out.

Don't know where to begin. I don't know the first thing about these engines.

I'd guess you have a split fuel line.
