MR2 MK2 Revision 5 - Astral Black - The BATMOBILE

Post by n52 »

Hi All,

Now I've reached the posting requirements I thought I'd post a project thread for my MR2. So here is a few snaps when I first picked her up.

Lovely condition very pleased with my purchase, original owner looked after the car very well and didn't drive it in the rain! It's been fully resprayed in the original factory colour, and fully undersealed. Anyway I've done a few things now so I'll post some of the progress and what's been doing/what I'm currently doing.

My first port of call was to get the windows tinted as I'm going for the fully blacked out look as I've always wanted a car thats completely blacked out

Black windows and smoked repeaters/indicators
Image

I then decided the indicators/repeaters were not black enough so I made my own custom ones

I plastidipped the rears, but these are not a permanent addition. I will be spraying like I have done with the sidelights

Installing HID's for a newer/fresher look

Newer louder exhaust installed

I'm currently working on a custom audio door build for the MR2. it's taking awhile but should be nice once its done. Here are a few pics

Unfortunately there are a few questionable mods on here...Best part is I have everything original in the boot so it can be changed at roadside. If it means getting out of a ticket then I'd do it lol.

I originally thought that then realised, once you change it once it's like an hour job to do once a year so its not bad at all!

Was originally going for a rev3, did some searching and saw this come up with the spoiler. I thought wtf is that spoiler, that looks badass. Did some more research into Rev5's and thought, yerp I'm havin that.

Apart from the tinted rear lights and HIDs in the front reflector headlamps - some good work there :thumleft:

I was always weary about installing them into reflector lamps but I did some research and ordered them from this site that specialise in making HIDS low glare for reflector lamps. Believe it or not for 8k lamps I have not had one flash from a car yet for them being blinding, even on pitch black country lanes. They're also angled at the floor

Near rear lights being painted atm

Post by n52 »

Currently painting myself some new gloss black (legal (ish) reflectors will be completely un tinted.) rev 3 rear lights. These are how I originally wanted my lights rather than the current ugly grey ones. These still need to be laquered but are well on their way to being finished.

Thanks to ollie@pacificworks for sorting me out with the rev3 lights.

Potentially a weird question, but do you live in Kingston? I swear I've seen this car go past me so many times, and I swear I've seen it parked up in Surbiton a few times...

I live in New Malden. Where abouts in Surbiton? Don't remember parking there!

Do you live near the sunbed shop in tolworth? I always see a sonic parked down the road opposite

Took awhile to get them done but I think they are much better than the old ones. They actually reflect like a mirror too, and legal!

Maybe it's a different one, but there's one that parks down by the McDonald's sometimes. And yep, that's me! :thumleft:
