[Mk2] [NA] Oil at top of spark plugs

Post by markyj1969 »

Just noticed that I've got a bit of oil collecting around the top of the spark plugs, 3 out of the 4 have a little bit of oil there, no loss in Performance or smoke or anything, it's a 1996 n/a , is it valve cover gasket gone, any advice would be appreciated, also if there is a link to replacing the gasket, that would be great, cheers guys

Yup, valve cover (rocker cover) gaskets needs replacing. Common problem.

Do it sooner rather than later - the oil will eat away at the the rubber boots at the end of the HT leads. This has happened to mine as I left it for ages and now the rubber boot has come away from the ignition plug. Just makes it more of a pain in the ar$e to fix!

Yeh gonna do it next week hopefully, also gonna change the manifold gaskets while I'm at it, gonna polish up the manifold, valve cover and heat shields while I'm in there.
