Mk1a Headlights wont pop up!

Post by Grant74 »

This will no doubt say its my first post, but my old account (its been a while) wont work! Previously had a Rev1 turbo, but was racing it, andf it became very scary!

Anyway, now have a Mk1 which I love (also have a MK2 for sandracing, but that's a different story), but the headlights were too high.

Simples I think- remove the 4 screws around the lights (while they are up), adjust the rod thing on the side (by removing it and shortening it ), and job done....

So now my lights wont pop up! They will retract Ok afterwards, and have checked the two fuses in the frunk (a 30 and 7.5) and the 60amp screwed in one in the back- all seem fine.

In fact all was fine til I bu88ered about! Can you overshorten those rod things to lower light height?

Any suggestions? All else in the car is good.

If I can get this sorted can finish the MK2 sand car!

Appreciated

I'd guess that by shortening the rod you've effectively prevented the lights from fully retracting which in turn is stopping them from popping up again.

Have you tried manually moving the lights through a full up/down cycle by turning the knob in the frunk? You should be able to keep turning it in the same direction and the lights will pop up and down. I suspect you'll find a point at the bottom of the lights travel where they stop and won't move any more.

Put the rod back how it was and see if they start working again.

There are adjuster screws for the aim, have look where the recess is in the middle of lower edge of the black plastic surround just below the lens

Mate- that's brilliant, although a little disappointed with myself in not thinking of resetting and starting again!

Starter motor arrived for the MK2 beach car today, so hopefully get that sorted too!
