Offside McPherson strut top mount - Knocking Noise

Post by Brundle25 »

Hi All

I have a Rev 5 G-Limited with a knocking suspension noise.
Just taken it to a garage who are suggesting to replace the offside McPherson strut top mount as they say it appears to have seized??
The cost of the part is £112 with £200 being the total cost with labour.
Does anyone have experience with this issue? Does this part really need to be replaced or does it just need tightening?

Thanks

Unbolt the top mount, you might need to unbolt the hub to get the shock low enough to get a proper play check.
Give it a good wiggle, if it feels like it will just fall off then the bearings have probably gone. A standard replacement is around £60. Have a look on MR2BEN.
It's a pretty easy job to do rather than pay a garage. It may be best practice to change both sides if it is bu88ered.

Corrected for you. :thumleft:

Also, be aware the geometry of the aftermarket top mounts does not suit all revisions.
