MR2 V6 'track' car

Post by Nickp »

After much deliberation and a heavy heart we've decided to put our MR2 SW20 V6 up for sale.

Here's a little taster of how it looks. It's Rev1 but a late import (2004 IIRC) and a perfect shell, with sills and arches like they left the factory. I'm yet to see a better one. It's been prepared as a track car but in such a way that it can easily be put back to 'road spec' with a bit of trim.

It came to us about 4yrs ago with a knocking engine. It evolved briefly through a Rev3 n/a lump and then into a V6 3vzfe.

Engine-

3.0 24v 3vzfe from a lazy old automatic Camry
Freshened up before install with new bearings, head gaskets, belts etc
Heads gas-flowed before been skimmed and fitted with new bolts.
Woodsport engine mount and front / rear poly bushes.
Sump baffle added for those long right handers.
10w60 fully synthetic oil used since install.
Pulls well from nothing to the rev limiter, uses no oil or water.
Exhaust hand-made by me into Magnaflow back-box.
Cone air filter down by N/S air vent.

Porting, before-

After-

Engine sat in before been finished off-

And on the car-

Transmission-

Std Rev1 n/a 'box with no issues.
MR2 Turbo flywheel redrilled to suit V6 crank PCD
N/A 4 puck race centre plate
'RPM' Turbo clutch cover rated at approx 500 ft/lb
TBH the clutch was a bit of overkill and is a bit 'sharp' on the road but it doesn't slip at all, ever!!

Suspension-

Polybushed throughout including ARBs
D2 fully adjustable coilovers, done about 3-4 trackdays and virtually no road miles.
Buddy Club coil springs, chosen for track as much stiffer than the D2 ones. D2 ones to come with car also.
Geometry set for track use with 2.5deg neg camber front and 2deg rear.
It's handling is fantastic and the cars real party-piece on track.

Image

Brakes-

Rev2+ Turbo front and rear.
Grooved discs with EBC Yellows.
HEL braided lines and DOT5 race fluid.

Wheels / tyres-

3 sets-
16" JDM staggered split rims fitted with Yoko 205/45 front 225/45 rear, used to drive to track and as 'wets'.
2 further std 15" sets fitted with 4x Toyo R888 225 rears and 4x Hankook/Michelin Cup Sport 205 fronts. They've all seen 'spirited' track use but will certainly see you right for a trackday or 2.

Interior-

Stripped but retains dash and door cards etc, easily put back to road spec.
Aftermarket adjustable 'bucket' seats. Make unknown but very supportive yet comfy.
Full harnesses.
Momo steering wheel.

Car's been lightened wherever possible for track use but again in a way that can be reinstated. Front/rear 'crash-bars' removed, you can put back for road use if required.

Managed about 30mpg on little trip to Germany but mpg dipped slightly at this point

This is a great car built with help and advice from Peter Gidden @SBits and can continue to surprise much more expensive machinery on track or go back to been a cracking road car.

It's done a 14.0sec 1/4 at Santa Pod on road tyres. Could've gone much quicker on sticky rubber but suffered wheelspin with all the torque.

The car's been dry stored this year due to other commitments but started first time the other week and was driven faultlessly between garages. It will come with a fresh MOT and for the right price will get all new EBC pads fitted, as these must be close to renewal, and an oil change also.

£2500
Serious enquiries only, no silly offers, car can stay where it is (Barnsley, Sth Yorks)
Please don't ask if I'll sell parts off the car. The whole thing's for sale, not parts.

Yes it is and I'm hoping to get it out in the next couple of weeks. It'll be MOT'd, have an oil change and a general check over so it's ready to go :thumleft:

Perfect! A friend of me is searching for such a MR2. In Germany there's no Need for MOT ;-)

Depends what you mean by back on the road. It just needs MOTing to be road legal, which will be done shortly. However, if you wanted to use it as a daily driver then you'd probably want to fit some carpets and other little bits of trim.
