I seem to have a slightly erratic idle. It jumps up and down a bit when sitting in traffic maybe between 900-1000rpm. But when side lights are switched on its not as bad.

Is this normal?
I recently replaced pretty much the entire ignition system due to a misfire. New coil pack, dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads and iridium plugs. Checked the base timing, its about 8 BTDC.
Any Ideas?

Any ideas chaps?
Re: Eratic Idle - See video
Possible vacuum leak somewhere or it could be a dirty maf sensor
Re: Eratic Idle - See video
I've been thinking about this and it might be your throttle position sensor

Re: Eratic Idle - See video
I took the throttle body off today and gave it a good clean. As I suspected, it was stinking with carbon build up. It still seems to be doing it though. I started to replace some of the vacuum hose as well thinking it could possibly be a vac leak. But again still doing it. I did notice today there is a hell of a lot of white smoke from the tail pipes. Doing a quick google search it seems that is normally a coolant related issue. I check my oil regularly and there is no mixing in the sump and the car is not overheating so I don't think I'm losing masses of coolant. It's hard to see the coolant top up bootle so I am not sure of the level has dropped. I haven't checked the compression. But I don't think it's a head gasket at this stage as there's no water in the oil, not over heating, plenty of hot air a the heaters and generally driving well apart from the small up and down and idle.
Any ideas on the eh it smokes as well? Lol

P.s. What's the best way of testing the throttle position sensor?
Thanks

Also just seen your earlier post bud, I don't have a maf sensor I run a map sensor. Rev 4 non turbo, I'm guessing it's from factory?
Re: Eratic Idle - See video
Although this is for the turbo it's the same for n/a

Also does it smoke all the time or just on warm up?

Thanks will try to get checking it during the week.
I haven't really been monitoring it. I will be from now on. From memory i think it is fairly heavy on warm up but less noticeable when warm (through the rear view)
