Re: The Corolla Ae-202 Project, Pic heavy
Had a really bad week,
quite lucky / unlucky (whichever way you want to look at it)
Sunday morning on the way to work, tyre blew out at aroun 65-70mph
quite lucky that there was rubber still on the edge, guessing thats what gave me more control and stopped the car from spinning, glad that there was hardly anyone else on the road as the tyre flew back and bounced across all lanes on the motorway, pulled into the hard shoulder and swapped the alloy for a space saver i had in boot. funny thing is that it didnt fit and i had to use spacer behind it to space it out because it was catching on brake caliper carrier..
Got to work all right and then realised how lucky i was,
thought about it like there was the initial shock from the blow then instinct kicked in to keep car straight, got to work all right.
on my lunch break went to go get the alloy checked out and new tyre fitted, they were quite surprised that there was next to no damage to the alloy and all they had to do was to replace the old wheel weights and put a new tyre on, balanced up ok
so that was day 1 over, on the way to work the following day i hear a really bad grinding sound from the passenger wheel, got about 5 mins from work and brakes failed, quite literally foot hit the floor, pumped it and got pressure, then drove again and foot hit the floor. This had happened to me in the past and it was due to the nut on the drive shaft coming loose, so again on my lunch break i took it down to my mates scrapyard to get it checked out, i was running late and left it with him to repair the fault. He phoned me 20mins later to say " you're very very lucky" again im thinking whats gone on today, so i take another break from work and go down to his yard, car was up on ramps and wheel was on the floor with half the hub attached to it.. i couldn't believe what i was seeing , half the outer cv joint had snapped off with the nut attached and the wheel bearing had collapsed.
the wheel bearing is pressed into the hub and should NOT come away like this at all
and the driveshaft, inner CV split and outer thread snapped off
got some more pics
Got my BZ Touring grille for my car
need to paint it to the same colour as the car though
Finally sorted out my driveshaft and changed gearbox oil
Got a new manifold system
Its a jasma 051 (Etching K S) system, which I've found is also known as HKS
this what the bottom of the old system looked like, loads of welding due to it snapping twice there lol
Going to attempt to polish it soon
In comparison to the FGK system
also re-fitted the RSM and a new cd player, and a boost gauge (wanted it for the vacuum gauge) to try to save abit more fuel lol

Re: The Corolla Ae-202 Project, Pic heavy
better pics of the flexi
it doesnt rest on the subframe, just on there because the manifold was off again...
to get welded around all the ports next to the head
because it was off i got around 30mins to try to polish it up abit, used 400 wet sand paper and some polish and this is the result, not bad in my opinion
now its gone a golden bronze colour
