Hey pResto Rev3 GTS

Post by Evo4tomb »

Hi guys

The names Tom, I am a JDM Fan but have a soft spot for Evo's had 2 in the past 1 being a heavily modified evo hybrid made up of an evo 4rs shell and everything else was from newer cars inc a 7 engine 8 gearbox and drive train 9 turbo and 9gt rear diff.

Quick pic

Anyways....

just got myself a little project to keep me busy over the winter.

I managed to pick up a Rev3 GTS for a good price that needed some attention, well I sure got 1 that needed it haha

The Motor
Image

She is faded sorry old girl that has many scars and some issues , but does have 8months Mot and 3 months tax :) which is a bonus as the usual cars I buy have neither :)

So got her home and started to write up an action plan and first thing on the list was a full body clean !

Out comes the snow foam

The engine was also in a sorry state so got out the mr muscle oven cleaner ! ( not joking)

This stuff works a treat and I have used it on many engines before :)

I kind of new the snow foam wasn't going to do much but it went on nun the less lol

Well after a good wash the paint was in need of some serious elbow grease so got out the machine polisher and some g3 compound and went to work

Now this picture was taken after 3 hours of just this 1 corner and I was nearly dead ](*,)

After 1 more hour and a finer grade pad and compound I got this :)

So after 4 hours I have a shiny rear quarter \:D/ but the rest still needed doing lol

Wish me luck

Cheers mate I do miss the evo but if I kept every car I loved I would need a lot of land to store them all ;)

Had the morning off so I cleaned the engine and sprayed up a few things inc the heat shield

The body is slowly coming back to life I think it needs a really good polish and wax now (maybe even another session with mop)

How it looks now

Still work in progress but it is a million times better than what it was ;)

You've done it proud there mate, good work.

Keeping the no-spoiler look? Or just off for polish?

Oven cleaner on the engine is a good idea :thumleft:

The spoiler is off at a body shop being sprayed as it was to far gone ;) will be going back on but would like to find a rev 5 spoiler ;)

Over cleaner is a good idea but don't leave it on to long or you will be replacing rubber components ;)

Another pink MR2.

They all seem to end up this way. I did the same thing, buffing her up. That lasted a day and it's now returned pink

Nice to see another MR2 being treated to TLC!

Did you mop urs or just buff it ?

I have been told the key is to cut back until it goes hazy and then polish it until the haze goes away ;) then treat it to a couple coats of decent wax

P.s. Only bringing the car out at night will help too :D

I had a friend use a buffer and some G3 cutting compound. The results were amazing but it faded back after a day or sun and rain :(

Maybe it's because IMOC is pink. When are they going to fix that...

The key to keeping some lustre in the paint is definitely a good sealing or waxing following all the hard work polishing and cutting.

Cheers mate it's coming along now

Anyone know where I could get the two structural bars either side of the engine between the bulk head and the chassis rails ? The one side is rusted through and snapped .

Seen a set of stainless steel plates but now can't find them ?

Any help greatly appreciated

Looking smart, nice job on the engine bay! The paint has come up nice,I gave up on mine as it just kept fading back to pink so had it painted.
