Ok Ive been doing some research on the topic and cant find a real conclusion.
Ive read that the stock bov acts as a bypass valve which causes the bov to sit open at idle and suck in unfiltered air or something along those lines, is it correct that it sucks in air at all??
What I ultimately would like to know is whether or not It is perfectly safe to vent the stock bov to the atmosphere on my rev 3 or any rev3+ for that matter.
Also if this thread could avoid ending up becoming a can of worms about using a bov with a rev 1 or 2 with an afm.
Thanks!

Dump valve on a rev3+ turbo is fine.

If that were the case, not a single rev1/2 car would run.
Safe to say, i think, that you're mistaken.

Sorry if I wasnt clear, I know you can run aftermarket bovs fine with a rev 3.
My main concern is if I remove the recirc hose and use my stock bov as an atmospheric bov for sound purposes. Will it suck in air on idle? Not sure the reasons why it would other than from what ive read it does because it acts also as a bypass valve? If there is any truth in that im unsure hence the thread.

Its just what ive read, not my opinion. Looking to get some clarity on the issue.
Thanks

Stock bov (or any Bov) does not suck in air at any point. It purely seals and vents. Ive ran mine like this for years due to different intake. It sounds okish. Not great but not that bad.

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear, I have other parts to buy before an aftermarket bov and was hoping this may suffice for the time being.

i could certainly agree that on a rev1/2 whilst venting to atmosphere the valve will sit open, i had this very problem on my rev2, the valve doesn't close so the car stalls, however, when it's set to recirc, the valve shuts due to the vacuum on the other side of it. i don't know if they suck air in but they 100% (or at least on mine) do not fully close when venting to atmosphere.

Many years back we did some testing with the stock bov vented involving a hose pipe from the output into the cab of my old MR2 and I can absolutely confirm that the stock BOV defiantly does not suck air.

It doesnt fully close on idle though, not that it would matter on a rev3+

Or a stock Rev1/2.

Caused my rev 2 to stall and drive lumpy, although so did an apexi bov, the only one my rev2 drove nicely with was a baileys.
