It lives!!!! But...

Post by Chr15py »

Hey.

So after being sat for over a year, battery connected and the MR starts and burbles into life! WIN!

Unfortunately there are a few lights that have switched on and stay on. Could anyone shed any light on what they are and why the may be on? They weren't on prior to it standing.

Battery light - it doesn't seem to be charging which will explain this light but why? What could cause this?

Engine cooling fan light - it's still plugged in but I have a Rogue twin spal kit.
Cat high temperature light - no cat lol.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Usual signs of alternator or alternator circuit failure.

Start by checking if alternator is charging.

Cheers Pete. Could you advise on the best way to do this?

This might answer some of your questions...

I appreciate that it's for a MK1 but it should give you an idea of how best to proceed as a lot of the principals are the same :thumleft:

With car idling use a voltmeter on battery. Voltage should be around 13.8V.

Thanks for the replies guys. Have tracked down the issue...snapped alternator belt. I'm sure that the alternator has probably seized and so snapped the belt when first turned over.

Ha! I only went there baiting ;). Has a gearbox issue that meant it wasn't feasible to keep it on the road. Plus it was too damn expensive to run lol. Bought a Fabia vRS to handle that but never lost the love for it.
