Bloody Misfire!!!

Post by msherry21 »

Hi all,

I'm having trouble fault finding a misfire that my rev3 turbo has.

I've removed my Unichip to take that out the equation.

I've changed the spark plugs, checked dizzy cap and rotor arm, all is fine and fairly recent, all Denso parts and NGK plugs.

I've check the coil pack and checked all the earths I could find but nothing has helped.

I've had a look for air leaks but all vacuum pipes have been renewed lately.

No error codes found, I did have one for oxygen sensor but I replaced the lambda for a blueprint part which cleared the code but still have the misfire.

Anything else I can check? I'm running out of ideas quick and just want it sorted!

Cheers, Michael.

Could it be timing related or perhaps clogged fuel filter?

What ignition leads are you running, and what condition are they in?

Does it misfire all the time, or just under load?

I have genuine toyota leads and they are fairly recent.

It misfires on idle, when I fire the car up its fine for a few minutes then starts to misfire.

Fuel filter and timing were all done when the engine was rebuilt not so long ago.

Ok, so not likely to be the leads then, may just be worth checking the resistance of each lead to be sure.

It does sound heat related if its not doing it straight away, what about the coolant sensor, the green one I mean. Is that new?

Failing coil can cause this issue. Worth swapping to be sure.

I'll check the coolant sensor today and i'll see if I can get e replacement coil to swap over to check that today too.

Any other ideas?

Cheers.

Hi, I've checked the green water sender and I'm only getting 5v from the positive, is that right?

Have you checked your injectors? Could be a loose lead on them, or a bad injector.

Cheers

its the resistance across the terminals you need to check.

TBH if its as old as the car its worth swapping not very much.

Hi,

Here's a video of it starting from cold. At 4.13 you can see the revs drop a bit and it starts to misfire.

I hope someone can diagnose this!

So have you replaced the coil / water temp sensor yet?

Replaced the water temp sensor. new coil on its way, the current one looks in good condition but it won't hurt to replace with a new one. I hope that is the issue!

Replaced the coil, fired her up which was fine but after 30 seconds or so, the revs rise slightly then she cuts out.

Any ideas what could be causing this.

Cheers, Michael.

Idle

Maybe something wrong with your idle control valve?
