I recently replaced my cancer bars with some Stainless steel bars through a forum member - (Admin Edit) He was a pleasure to deal with but I promised I would upload pictures of my shameful cancer bars, anyone seen worse?

Our new stainless steel cancer bars will be available as of today. Shame we had our toes stepped on,but our bars are more than just steel pipe mashed in a vice at home! Also they will be cheaper to members to help with mr2 life!

Luke, I am sure no toe stepping was intended. To be honest I was heavily debating whether I should mention who I got them off. I asked him to make me some, he wasn't advertising. In other news I might need a new part of my exhaust replacing so I will see you this weekend!

To be fair, they were being advertised but this is an issue that should have been picked up by IMOC admin, unfortunately it wasn't (well it was but no posts were removed when they should have been, I'm not sure why) but has been now.

Charged, I fully appreciate that, I just feel bad I have potentially limited someones chances of making a bit of spare cash. Which is why I am going to stop discussing this and steer the thread back to it's intended direction. Guy's and gals! I implore you post your pictures of your cancer bars

cant see pics at work but I guess these are the rear ones?

There are similar braces at the front - mine aren't rusted through but they certainly have rust rash and no doubt there would be a market... any plans for these also?

They don't do a huge amount. However, Toyota clearly felt the need for them. The issue is they make them from mild steel, and don't seal the ends, so they rust, usually inside out. If yours look good, remove them and shake them!

Also with clamped pipe you have to becareful how you finish the ends, other wise you loose all structural rigidity.

Our stainless bars are made from 5mm plate, angled, tigged and heat treated. All very straight forward. They will obviously never rust. Left in a brushed finish, handy if you want to weld brackets to them in the future etc.

triangulation braces, there are 2x at the front and 2x at the rear, divided opinion on whether they do much on a road car, a track/race car i suppose needs all the chassis bracing it can get

Luke told me about these bars rotting from the inside out ages (years?) ago and proved they were no longer doing anything structural on my car. I had not noticed as it was gradual deterioration over 10 yrs. I put new Toyota ones on and it transformed the handling particularly noticeable on twisty roads.

Gotta be one of the cheapest improvements to be had.

ok, some more info.

My car does 100 miles a day commuting so I know how this particular mr2 handles consistently on a mix of road types and how much I will push it cornering.

When the rusted through cancer bars were taken off the car and not replaced straight away, I did not notice any difference in the handling.

When new bars were put on there was a noticeable improvement to the back end feel - the rear suspension felt surprisingly "tighter" in a good way and for me it improved the cornering.

I have driven another mr2 and it feels less happy trying to corner like I do in my high mileage daily commuter (prob more to do with different tyre brand, condition of shocks) so I have to drive it slower. Cancer bars may be a factor.
