Hi all this is a bit of a weird thread regarding tyres.
Now as most of us will know the MR2 has a strange rear tyre size and getting tyres for the rears is getting harder
Now the purpose of this thread is I've been looking into getting some tyres and trying to get them to match all round and as most of us know trying to find the rear Toyo's is somewhat difficult
So now I've been looking into different tyres and have found some Maxxis MA-Z1 tyres. They make them for the front already so that's not an issue. They do the MA-Z4S but I'm not sure that they'll be up to much and they don't make the Z1 for the rears in our size yet.
Would anyone else be interested in buying some if they did put them into production? I've seen a fair few tyre reviews ad have found that they're generally pretty good tyres. They also produce tyres for the BDC so they can't be that bad either

If you'd be interested in getting them please post here
Cheers in advance

Re: Interest in Maxxis MA-Z1 in 225-50-15?
I've read good reviews on these!
Unfortunately they don't make 265/40/17 and 315/40/17 for me

I'm trying to stick with the stock 15" wheels so I'd definitely be interested. I'm going to need them pretty soon though as my Yokohamas are down to about 3mm.

I've sent this yesterday
Good afternoon I'm sending this message as a request as to whether you are thinking of producing the MA-Z1 tyre in a 225 50 15V tyre rating
The reason that I ask is I'm a member of IMOC (A mr2 owners forum) and Toyota upon producing the car used a somewhat strange tyre sizing from the front and rear.
They used 195 55 15 for the fronts which isn't an issue to get hold of however the 225 50 15 is somewhat less common. The only tyres I know of who do this size is Toyo with the T1-R although there are difficulties in attaining these, Nankang which don't really work too well with the rear of a MR2 and Nexen which have the same issue
I'm aware that you do the MA-Z4S although I'm not too clued up on these tyres I get the impression they're not as performance orientated as the Z1?
Please forgive me for asking but I do sincerely think that if you began producing the MA-Z1 in this size it would help a lot of MR2 owners such as myself out and would quite likely be a good seller for yourselves.
I hope to hear from you soon
Many thanks

And received this in reply
Hi Ryan,
Thanks for getting in touch. Really appreciate your feedback and suggestions. We've passed your message onto our car tyre experts - we'll get back to you as soon as possible
Thanks
Maxxis
It's not a no so who knows? Someone there may run with the idea and maybe get them put into production even on a trial run
Re: Interest in Maxxis MA-Z1 in 225-50-15?
Well it's worth asking. I'm just about ready to search out a set of 16" wheels if no good tyres turn up in 225/50/15.

Re: Interest in Maxxis MA-Z1 in 225-50-15?
Ma-z1 seem to be a pretty hard tyre and standup to heat well too ive used them on the back in 235 40 17 at cadwell and they performed well so should be even better in 15"
Re: Interest in Maxxis MA-Z1 in 225-50-15?
They've passed it on to their specialist tyre makers and I'm waiting on a reply from thenm
I hope they do bring them out as they MIGHT be a tad cheaper than the T1-R's and last longer
