If the fusible link is blown you will get nothing, no lights, no ignition, the car will be dead. The only part of the electrical circuit that doesn't go through that link is the main power feed to the starter motor.

As I said nothing will work

It cant be the link in that case

Reading the manual I understood there to be more than one link

Completely dead but I remember you saying that the engine bay fan was running

Presumably that wouldn't be live if the link had blown :-k

What think you Jimi ?

The fan was working full on even with the plug, plugged in, but then I suffered electrical issues and I get nothing anymore.

Where on the diagrams are these "other" fusible links ?

but then I suffered electrical issues and I get nothing anymore.

Sounds like the link has blown, as I said it's easy enough to check it

There are none, as you have now explained

I'm not contradicting you, just trying to help Alex with his problem

I'm learning too from discussing things like this

From what you've said now Alex it could be worth checking the link

I hold my hands up!!! Guilty as charged!!

The nut on the starter was only finger tight.

I seem to have no issues now.

It cranks but won't turn over.

Battery issues due to the xxxx charger my dad has got.

It's got a spark and there is fuel in the rail but won't fire up.

Any ideas?

I don't understand that sentence, cranking is turning over.... Do you mean cranking but not firing?

Again it's user error, something unconnected or wrongly fitted, are your injectors firing? Are you getting a CEL?

hi Alex it sounds to me like the timings way out , check the exhaust cam isn't 180 degrees out and the inlet cam is set right , all so make sure the dots are set right right on the dizzy and you have set the engine to top dead center before fitting it , its the only thing i can think of whats stopping it starting due to you took a working engine out . good luck and keep at it, it will run .

i was away all weekend, but my mate went to mine to get it done.

He's said the timing is bang on and it was setup at TDC.

My dad's battery charger is older than I am and I heard in the background considerable lack of effort wen it was trying to fire up.

I'm going to buy a new charger and charge it properly. I haven't got jump leads anymore at the moment either, as they melted last week...

I think you've missed Gary's point, the cam timing may appear to be correct, but the cams "peg" onto the pulley one of two ways, get that wrong and a cam will be 180* out, also getting that wrong on the exhaust cam also throws ignition timing out a full 180* as well, also don't confuse cam timing and ignition timing.

If it turns over the battery should be fine. If you've got sparks and your injectors are firing, it pretty much has to be the timing. One tooth out on a cam or the dizzy and you'll struggle to start the thing. I speak from experience!

Mr Woods speaketh sense! - I've witnessed an engine timed 180 degrees out - all looked good but again, it wouldn't fire. Also, check your leads are in the correct plugs.

I'm uploading a video

It tries to start and there is a puffing noise coming from the inlet manifold.

If it was 180 degrees out wouldn't it sound like a gun was going off?
