Revision 5 UK Sonic Shadow Coupe - very nice!

Post by snotrag »

Hi All, regrettably need to get rid of this now. Its a really, really lovely car, known to some members on here - when I viewed it, I had to buy it, as I didn't think I'd find another like it.

Toyota MR2 2.0 GTi 16v Revision 5. Overall fantastic condition, far belying its miles, with excellent detailed history and very high spec. Only 3 owners from new. 129k miles - I recall previous owner JonnyC on here did huge motorway miles commuting, but equally did a wonderful job looking after it for the 8 years or something he owned it.

Its a genuine Revision 5, with all the final upgrades and revisions, such as the adjustable rear spoiler, and Red/black stitched wheel and gearknob. The car is a Coupe, Sunroof is removable and fits into the front trunk for fresh air motoring. Factory 'Sonic shadow' two tone paint.

In recent years the car has had extensive, and thorough work carried out:
- Complete suspension overhaul - Toyota Dampers, Poly Bushes, Track rods, Ball joints, TRD Top mounts, Droplinks, with Eibach lowering Springs.
- Refurbished Rev 5 wheels, matching correctly staggered Toyo tyres x4, wheel alignment correctly set.
- Carbotech Brake Pads, recent discs, Fresh fluid, Braided brake lines.
- Mongoose Stainless Exhaust, Apexi intake.
- JDM Electric folding, Heated Mirrors. JDM 'Quad' style tail light setup. Meshed Grilles for protection. El-glo White dials with adjustable backlighting. Fog lights. Clear repeaters and indicators.
- Fully undersealed underneath.
- Plenty of other regular maintenance/work including replacement radiator, Timing belt/waterpump, Dizzy/Leads/Plugs, Windscreen, uprated bulbs all round, new registration plates etc, regular scheduled servicing plus interim oil changes.
The car drives, handles, goes, and stops brilliantly - the brakes are 'trackday' spec, very powerful and fade free. Engine feels strong and smooth, uses no oil, sounds great. Chassis is lowered but controlled, well damped, no noises, creaks etc.

The most recent work done over this Winter in the last 2000 miles includes:

- New Clutch and release bearing
- New Alternator + Drive belts
- New Battery
- Engine mounts
- And a recent fluids service with fully synthetic oils.

MOT till May 2013, Tax Till April. Car is supplied with a chunky folder stacked with bills, MOT's, Service receipts, parts receipts, details of work carried out. Two keys with remote fobs, handbook, glovebox folder etc. Will supply with Sony Xplod stereo with CD changer wired in (not shown in pic).
Interior practically spotless - tiny almost imperceptible wear to drivers seat. ZERO marks, rips, tears, saggy bits. Paintwork is very shiny, car is used daily but polishes up lovely. Regularly washed/waxed top and underside. No real dents or damage to note. Some stone chips on nose commensurate with mileage, small area of paint flaking on front bumper edge. Absolutely everything works as it should.

Bad points - the wheels have a bit of staining from the high carbon content in the brakepads, and the outer rear lip of the sills is showing the very beginning of water getting under - having owned (and welded up) a number of other Jap sportscars this is far, far from being a problem yet - If I get chance and can get hold of some correct mixed paint, I'll get it touched in. Arches, underside, main sill etc rock solid. I've done a fair bit of work on the car climbing under and around it, That really is it.

Very, very sorted car. When I was looking for one of these I simply could not turn it down when compared to the rest of the dross on sale.

The only reason for sale is - I really miss having a roof that goes down! If it was a T-bar I would probably have kept it. I've now bought a Turbo MX-5 so this is going to be surplus soon (still in use currently). I must be barmy really as the MX-5 is a complete basket case compared to this, maybe I'll regret it.

Surely one of the best remaining, would make a fabulous donor for a Turbo or V6 car (I was majorly tempted myself).

PM me any questions, or if you want my mobile number for a chat.
I'm just East of Leeds, easy access from end of M1, LS25 postcode.

£2195 or best (sensible) offer.

This really could do with being off my drive in the next few weeks... I'm listening, if anyone wants to come see and make a cash offer....

It honestly must be one of the best looked after N/A's about.

Good timing or what...

I ended up keeping hold of the car for a while longer over Summer.

However now that my Turbo MX-5 is nearing the end of its rebuild, I was thinking about putting this up for sale again to see if theres any interest.

Chris - I'll PM you.

V prefix registration dates - 1 Aug 1999 to 28 Feb 2000.
Production date could have been prior to Aug 99 though.
