Quick fuel system question

Post by russgregg »

Hi, can somebody tell should the fuel pump in an 86 N/A run constantly? Even with ignition on and engine off I can hear the pump running constantly. I had always assumed that it would shut off once it reached a certain pressure.

Thanks

There's no pressure control, the pump should run continuously, however with the ignition on and the engine not running (or below 5 rpm) then the fuel pump should be off.
Sounds like you have a problem with the COR. (Circuit Opening Relay)

Thanks Jimi, do you have any idea where I might find a wiring diagram for the engine loom and fuse box?

On my 1b the COR is in the rear boot, near the ECU

Thanks guys. Turns out when I solved an earthing issue that the pump now runs as you describe - must have been affecting the COR.
