[Mk2] [Turbo] Paddle clutches - which one to get?

Post by toecutter »

After a paddle clutch for my Rev 2, preferably a 6 paddle as its for road use.

Want to avoid the cheap ebay ones as I imagine they're not up to much.

Was looking at the Helix one on Fensport, but they say it has to be used with the modified or uprated clutch cover and with a new bearing its over £400 which is more than I want to spend.

Exedy do a kit for £300, but its a 3 paddle so may be to harsh for the road http://www.camskill.co.uk/m5b0s608p2819 ... 812_91-%29

Any experience/suggestions?

Make sure you get a solid centre clutch. No springs.

Since you are upgrading the clutch I can only assume you are going to be ragging on the car a fair bit, otherwise the OEM Toyota clutch is good to around ~275rwhp. I ran 12 second 1/4 miles on my OEM clutch.

I've seen and experienced myself, far too many broken spring keepers on 'performance' clutch plates.

Are the solid ones not even harsher on the road? Thought it would be OK if I got a good one.

I want a paddle clutch as I like to do standing starts, didn't think the standard clutch lasts long with these? Im running 250whp if im lucky.

Exedy paddle is fine, you just have to get used to using a few more revs when moving off and expecting it to grab quicker

Depending upon how much power your making, for road use i would recommend you take a look at the Clutch Master Fx200 or Fx300 with kevlar disc.

We have been using these for years with great results.

The Clutch Master would have been far better, now you and going to have a Chinese clutch.
