[Mk2] [NA] ACIS Spacer

Having had a mooch around tinterweb I came across the "ACIS Mod" seems very popular on the Celica and some on the Supra Forums. I was wondering if anyone on here had fitted the 30mm spacer and what the outcome was?

I guess the theory is increasing plenum volume? From what I have read before this is purely to ad smoother running/torque at lower RPMS to engines with long duration cams.

Looks pretty cool, if its cheap or you can make it DIY then why not.

It increaces plenum volume but only when ACIS is active, dont know what effect this will have as my only experience of enlarging the plenum on N/A cars was to allow smoother running with lairy cams at low RPM's. ACIS is only active at high RPM's.

ACIS already increases your plenum volume as when it opens it turns the first half of all your inlet runners into plenum space and shortens your runners, for higher RPM's shorter inlets are better I dont think whats before that counts for a lot as long as its got enough flow.

Well worth doing on some cars not so much on others. I used to have a Celica ST202 Rev 3 with one, fitted it and made a fairly hefty difference to the low down torque as opposed to just ACIS althougbh when the car was put on a dyno it was still making power at the Rev Limiter which a standard car wasn't so I'd imagine it'd be down to that

After I sold my car I passed the spacer onto a friend who's fitted it and they didn't seem to notice a difference?

I got mine from a guy on CCUK called CW Racing, His is made from metal unlike the ones that Vincent Doggy sells over on 6gc which are plastic IIRC?

As long as you reset the ECU after fitting then you should be fine, Obviously you'll need longer studs to go in as well to do it all up how I should be

I have one on my ST202, the well calibrated butt dyno seems to think there's a bit of extra oomph from it.

One of the guys on CCUK did do a before and after dyno test and there seemed to be a 10 bhp increase BUT, and it's a huge but, they were done on different dynos.

The jury is still out IMO.

we have done our own - which is now available - it should be better on engines that are running more overlap on camshaft duration than it does a standard engine.

Like anything there are no magic parts that create horsepower, in conjunction with a lot of tweaking there are gains to be had from this.

Nice, I wonder if the plastic item and its resulting noise was what made it feel quicker. A lot of air filters make cars feel like rocket ships but net very small or even negative results on their own.

I couldn't agree more. If it's anything like the one I had it'll give more torque than actual power. There's no chance at all it'll add 10bhp on a near enough standard engine with basic mods. I think he's pushing his luck to try and make people think it's something it isn't

I'm still waiting on mine as its being made as a favour. As soon as its arrived it'll be on and I'll let you know. I'm expecting more torque than ponies and I'm looking at doing a before and after dyno run with proper print outs to kill any myths

I did have a dyno run at Eurospec but it was giving low readings all day. One thing I did notice though was the torque increased from around 2k when I fitted it and pulled strongly all the way to the limiter (It was still making power at the redline though) yet it only made 158bhp although I later found out I had a air leak from the induction kit so it wasn't an accurate reading

@hurleyracing, can I just ask how come you make them at 25mm? I'm just curious to height choice
