[Mk2] [Turbo] What diameter of pipe to use for new intercooler?

Have fitted a new intercooler, need to sort out pipes now.

The ends of the intercooler are 2 1/4" OD, should I use 2 1/4'' pipes, or would there be any benefit of using 2 1/2''?

wider than required hoses will not seal properly so fit the correct size to match the pipe OD

I mean the pipes, not the silicone hoses, I would use a 2 1/4'' to 2 1/2'' silicone pipe on the intercooler.
