I am having a hell of a job separating the ball joints from the lower arms on my newly acquired uk na rev3.
Iirc i used to smack the lower arm with a lump hammer until the little beggars separated. Unfortunately after adopting my technique i have met my old pall Failure
Any suggestions please before i throw a hand grenade in the car?

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
using 2 hammers, one either side can work
Or a ball joing seperator, I prefer the type that screws down applying pressure, then a hit with a hammer
then theres the lever type ball joint splitter, but I dont like these as they tend to damage the rubber boots

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
Oh, when using the one I've suggested, screw the bolt down until it's REALLY tight, and then tap the top "finger" with a hammer. The load plus the small shock will cause the joint to pop free and save you from damaged knuckles if you try to split the joint just by tightening the bolt.

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
Try levering down on the arm with a long bar/screwdriver and then hit the bottom of the hub where pin of the ball joint sits. Should eventually crack.
Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
I've had alot of trouble replacing ball joints on my rev3 turbo... both times I ended up removing the lower arm from the car, heating the end with a blow torch repeatedly and smacking the joint out with a lump hammer!

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
That's why the machine mart one was £8 and the SP one was £25

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
Well I guess that's the main thing.
My SP one is a beast, had it for about 18 years or so now and it's not even so much as blinked at any ball joint I've used it on. Only minor issue was that I had to grind the jaws open slightly to accomodate bigger joints but that hasn't even weakend it!

Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
I had this issue, soaking with WD40 and Halfords releasing agent several times, allowing to soak for several hours and repeating then popped straight out with a splitter. I spent several hours previously trying to get the b'stard out!
Re: Stubborn Ball joint seperation
That's exactly what I did with a cheap Machine Mart separator.
Got a Franklin one in the end. What a difference:
