Brakes not working during a spin.

Thought I would post this one up as I am sure others have experienced it. I use my 2' for a lot of track work, and yesterday while drifting another 2' I noticed that during a spin the brake pedal becomes impossible to depress, meaning that it isn't possible to stop when travelling backwards accidentally. This resulted in a brief meeting with some tyres.

What I was wondering was, is this due to the ABS getting confused by the sudden change in direction and pretty much locking out the brakes? On a side note how would I disable ABS temporarily for track use?

er,if you're in a spin,the brakes still work,its just you have no traction to make them effective. Off the brakes,straighten up.

I've found in both mine and the rev 4 I drove yesterday that the pedal became impossibly hard to press (spun 180 degrees and was rolling backwards).

I use my turbo on track so to hear about your experience is a bit worrying. I will try reversing quickly and slamming on the brakes to see what happens. Let me know what happens when you try the same.

Just had a thought, did your engine cut out when you spun? If it did, then the servo wouldn't be working, hence solid pedal and feels like no brakes.

Nope, generally I manage to get the clutch in as soon as I feel that it has let go, yesterday even when I went into the tyres the engine was still running. Only time I ever let the engine cut out was the first time I spun my own, and then it didn't want to start straight away.

how does the car spinning change the direction of the wheels rotation? What was the speedo showing when you had your backwards trip, when you couldn't use the brake pedal....

I didn't really look, I was too busy looking at the tyre wall I was heading into and thinking "bu88er, this isn't my car"

Are you saying the pedal goes solid or are you saying that you can't stop when going backwards after a spin?

The pedal goes solid and it doesn't feel like the brakes are doing anything.
