My new MK1

Post by BARNEY_MK1 »

Hi everyone, i have bought another mk1. This time a red t-bar n/a. I think this is my fifth mk1. Ive had a couple of SC's and a few n/a's all in varying conditions. My last one was a white t-bar which blew its HG just after JAE!

This one has been stored for around 12 years so will need some servicing but everything seems in good condition so far. No rust, which is the main thing i suppose! Also a non-leaky t-bar - so far!

Anyway, here are some pics:

Wow, that is a pearl.

Not sure I`ve seen one in that shape, and that original before.

Thanks everyone. I'm really happy with it. Even the engine bay is spotless. The mileage is 85k miles. It's got full mot, new battery, tyres and brakes but I would like to get the belts, filters, plugs and fluids all changed as that many years in storage means a freshen up is required! I got it for a bargain price aswell. I will post updates on any accomplishments or failings I encounter when working on this mk1.

Eurocarparts had a sale on this weekend so I ordered all the belts, plugs, filters and fluids I needed at a big discount. All I need now is a water-pump (might as well change that while I'm doing the timing belt) and a waxoyl kit. I was thinking of doing the waxoyl job myself, is it a straight forward job?

Lucky! I can't decide which is best, driving or polishing.

Cheers. It will be cleaner today. Just looking at waxoyl kits so that I can keep the underneath rust free!

Don't wash or polish in the sunshine

You'll permanently damage the paint [-X

Yes my daughter likes the car more than I do. She didn't stop staring at it through her bedroom window the first night i got it!

I just went for a bike ride that day instead!

Good news, the log book arrived today so I can tax it (the previous logbook was an old version which made it impossible to tax).

Jimi, that is a mint looking mk1 you have there.
