Its a circle though Paul. When i was a young non asbo teen, i stole some BBS stainless steel volvo ones which looked mint, put them on my BMX and then within days some little turd had fobbed off with them off my bike! I even had a set of the green nitron filled ones from demon tweeks when my mate had his tyres filled up, and they got stolen too.

That's a form of poetic justice Alex :)

Wonder how long it was before they were nicked off the turd's bike

Tyre fitment next, i'm going with 245/35/16 Toyo Proxes T1Rs on the rear and 225/40/16 on the front, this will give me the same sidewall height front and rear, provide a decent footprint for the 2gr and still give me adequate handling.

Today we got a shipment of parts from the US, included was my aluminium rad, very impressed with it and it fitted very well....

Then my wheels came back with fresh rubber fitted, so on they went...

I'm absolutely stoked about how it looks, it was exactly how i imagined it would be, still a long way to go, the sideskirts and spoiler will change it again.

Show plate fitted...

It`s a stunning car Paul, even without spoiler, skirts and boot lid.
Heck, even the way those wheels fit the rims looks good. Just wish i had the time and skill to do what you are doing.

Cheers

The radiator looks familiar to me. :D

Hope Yours isn´t leaking like mine. Loose coolant at the drain plug. :( Already replaced the sealing, but it´s still leaking. Will have to take it out again and check the weldings.

Paul, when this is complete, message me, i will leave my car unlocked, on the driveway with the steering wheel in it, if you want to swap your completed one for my "new woodsport project" id gladly swap

On a serious note i love the red and black contrast, the wheels look awesome, and just looks sublime from the front!

Tempting :D

Thankyou for the kind words, i'm really happy with it so far. I'll have to thoroughly check that rad for leaks!

Looks great Paul!

Not so keen on the black bonnet, but the wheels and splitter go great together especially with the side light modification!

Note that red Mk2 from Scotland is still sat in your yard!!! Crazy.

Is the rad a direct replacement or has it been tinkered with?

I'm not a massive fan of wide arches on any car, but this is an exception, as I've just made a mess in my pants :(

It'd actually look good without a spoiler on the back as well - and I normally hate those too, but this just oozes what the original mk1 should have looked like!

It's a direct replacement with all of the correct mounting points and fittings.

Although I am a MK2 man, that is the best MK1 I've ever seen.

Kudos lad!

Looks stunning but I am not convinced by the black wheel centres.

Is anyone good with photoshop? Gold? Ali? Gunmetal? I've always liked white wheels on red cars, goes back to the Integrale rally cars of the late 80s early 90s (probably not right on this mk1 though)

I've not got a clue what would look best but in my (unimportant) opinion black isn't perfect.

IMO Gold would look sweet without the carbon bonnet and light covers. White gets dirty too easily and fades when you give the brakes some abuse an anthracite colour would look nice, but i think black, black on red is sweet.
