Discussion and technical advice the SW20 MR2. 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 3S-FE etc
Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
today i spent 2 hrs fitting my new poly engine mounts, if there is anyone out there still running on standard engine mounts, change them the bushes cost me 50quid and 2hrs very easy work they make so much difference, really gives a punch on when hard revving as you can tell i am as pleased as punch really transformed my mr poo into an mr2 lol
It's not uncommon to have that bolt ripped out of the gearbox. Best thing to do is either drill & helicoil if available or just drill & tap out to next size up & use a new bolt.(Will have to open up the hole in th mount iirc)
476bhp & 415ft lb @ 1.9bar Magic by Ryan! Gone, but never forgotten Now with a mk1.5 & a NHB EP3
What are the poly mounts like for NVH? I always heard that you stay away from them on a roadcar unless you like the whole thing vibrating on idle.
I noticed that fensport still have the TRD gearbox mounts available, assuming that their like the trd topmounts being a bit stiffer?
I mean yea the car does vibrate a bit at idle but...nm. I had poly inserts on my corolla t that also vibrated and it makes the engine sound louder IMO.
Liveable though.
Don't bother with Helicoils - waste of time.
TimeSerts are what you need.
IMHO, uprated east-west mountings are pointless. They have no effect on the rotation of the engine due to torque.
agreed with peter helicoils are pants you may as well use blue tac,, im still confused as to which bolt your all talking about?? i put locktight on all the bolts in mine,, my car seems to be a little vibrant on tic over too but not too bad:)
Just my experience but I had my gearbox mount helicoiled nearly nine years ago and I've never had a recurrence of the bolt working loose
Agree on the east-west comment too. I bought a set of TRD mounts, changed the front / back mounts and sold the east-west mounts for nearly the same money as the full set! Definitely more vibration but far less movement. Gear change slicker too due to the decreased movement under load.
yes 3 different sizes for the front but can measure it relatively easily with a vernier i layed over the back an measured from the top:) i dont know if the size is relates to the model but im sure someone will tell you
where do you get them?
This is just the front and rear lower mounts? There aren't any others? I've not looked into it. They don't need changing?
I found powerflex ones on eBay for front and rear lower engine mounts.
