...by taking away the chassis!
This is the Rogue XP1 which uses MR2 Roadster running gear and is based on a MEV Rocket chassis. We've been working on it for a few months now along with manufacturers RTR and the above images are from it's initial shakedown test at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground last weekend.
We've entered it into the 750 Motor Club's Sports Specials race this weekend at Brands Hatch to put it through it's paces and to get some feedback in a race environment. We've had to add some panels, mudguards and lighting to meet the regulations. At our current weight and with an unmodified 1ZZFE engine (save for the exhaust and air filter) that puts the car at around 265bhp / tonne. This compares favourably to a stock rev 3 MR2 turbo which comes in at about 200bhp / tonne.
We'll lose some more weight as the chassis is refined and the look of the thing should change quite a lot as well. During it's development cycle this year it's going to look fairly rough as parts are added and removed for testing.
...and yes, there'll be a version with the 2ZZGE in it!

Looks even more entertaining.
Good work.
Good work.

Here's a video of the car being raced - carefully, in the wet - at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago:

Re: Rogue XP1 - Adding Lightness...
I went to the PPC Party in the Park trackday at Mallory at the weekend to put some development miles on the car. Try and push it harder for long and see what shook loose.
The funny thing is it drives just like a smaller, lighter, faster MR2! I wasn't expecting it to be quite so balanced straight out of the box but everything seems to work well.

Re: Rogue XP1 - Adding Lightness...
Looks good there Patrick Was that one of the LS1 V8 Escorts? Certainly punched down the straights!! I was having similar trouble, I'd be catching more powerful cars by the end of the corners but they'd then pull away down the straight again. You can't be too aggressive on these sort of days, you just don't know how experienced / aware the people are that you're passing.

No, this one was all Ford! The two V8 engined cars (the Escort and the TVR) were about the only cars to pass me all day. They were very, very fast!

You ok? Looked like an F1 crash there

Not to the XP1, just a broken wheel arch that we were able to patch up and send out to race again.

It's not me driving, it's a guy who works for the chassis manufacturer. Funnily enough we'd been discussing lowering the roll hoop just before he went out. We think it's probably about in the right place now though...
We've just commissioned the chassis for XP2, so I hope to get out in that later in the season.

Ahh, good times. We'll expect more videos soon then

BUMP!
How's the development getting on?
Having driven an Ariel Atom a couple of weeks ago I would be very interested in knowing if a 3sgte would fit in the xp1/xp2?

Re: Rogue XP1 - Adding Lightness...
nice. what sort of price do these kits come in at? and can they be made road legal (as a road legal track day toy)
Re: Rogue XP1 - Adding Lightness...
Very interesting looking cars! How do they handle (how stable? secure? malleable?) and how do they compare to your track and race prepared Mk3 Patrick?
Re: Rogue XP1 - Adding Lightness...
More pictures! We've done some colouring in - it turns out that a grey chassis with grey transparent panels isn't particularly eye catching on a grey race circuit! Also, here's my video of the wet race at Pembrey at the weekend. I started from the back of the grid (by choice - mostly so I could annoy one of my friends) and I managed to finish third overall!
