I've also bought some more reading material, I've got some more MR2 only magazines coming but I'm more excited about one thing in particular. This time its in the form of a very rare limited edition Japanese publication covering the development of the MR2 and some of its features... Some of the adverts are cracking! For example - did you know that Toyota produced a set of sunglasses to go with their MK2 range?! Seriously!

Anyway here it is to give you an idea. The task in my bored state now is to translate the Japense

So, can we make up our own translation for the cover in the meantime?

I reckon it would have quotes like...

"When too much rice is never enough, TRD sunglasses? Oh yeah, straight outta the 80's and on to your noggin!"

"Turbos? Yeah, we got them, and the rest of the world you don't so suck that one!"

"Buy this car, over 20 years later they will be still worth 1000's in other lands"

"Ferrari inspired?' wow, thats generous, honestly we just pinched a lot more than inspiration!"

Lol, those translations were pretty accurate to be honest :oldtongue:

Minuscule update:
Unfortunately through no fault of his own the hoist wasn't delivered to Peter so he couldn't crack on with the engine. Such ashame as he was all set up to rip it all apart. On the plus side he is definitely having one delivered later today so the real work will begin then (fingers crossed its delivered in the morning and not last thing at night  )

A bit of a boring update now, but these next few pictures of today's deliveries are they help me track of everything I've done to the car :thumleft:

So I had my S60 washer jets delivered today:

Image

Frustratingly they got delivered with a set of small rubbers already attached. I had no connectors, didn't want to buy any to splice into the current set up and so found this a bit pointless. Needless to say they got attacked with a knife

Here they are ready to be fitted to the car when I get it back

Image

For the time being that's something else sat in the car box ready to be fitted

Looking forward to the postman's next visit and hopefully some photos of destruction from Peter. Till tomorrow (well later today I guess) :thumleft:

Today's deliveries comprised of a lot more MR2 only magazines. These were in amazing condition, and have joined the rest of the collection. I only need 3 more now to complete the set :thumleft:

Image

I also took delivery of the new Bosch super plus spoiler wiper arms. These have also been added to the parts pile

Hopefully there should be some updates soon regarding my engine overhaul and a few other parts that are due to be delivered.

Well today has been an eventful day so far as my Paypal account has been hacked and as such my bank account was hemorrhaging money until I found out #-o I guess that will put a stop to my eBay MR2 purchases for a while... On the plus side I completed my "MR2 Only" magazine collection with these:

Image

I also had these delivered at the same time

Image

Peter had the new hoist delivered yesterday, which he assembled (and knowing what these things are like to build it was probably more complex to put together than the engine will be!)

Image

Today the real work has begun \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
The Lexus started by having the front stripped out of it, in an attempt to free the engine from the chasis

Image

Following this the front of the 4x4 got cut apart so that the beasty engine can be lifted from it

Image

Its showing that its in good need of a strip down and clean up. It looks filthy in there! I'm sure Peter will do it proud though.

If all goes to plan the idea is to have the engine out of the car by the end of play today. Stay tuned!

Well weather has hampered work on the car meaning that the engine wasn't manged to be pulled when initially expected... But there has been progress

Today Peter managed to finish detaching the engine from the chasis in order to lift it out

Image

Image

The chains for the engine lift proved to be a tad to big for the hangers, so he then went and bought some links for it, which resulted in this during the afternoon

Image

Image

Image

Here it is completely freed

Image

Image

Image

Its in need of lots of elbow grease, some paint and some lovely clean parts...
The engine is now in the workshop and so can be worked on in any weather

EOR will be rolled in and my tiny current engine will be dropped shortly

There should be a flurry of activity on this thread again now
Great steps forward today, but loads left to do - I'm very pleased with how its going :thumleft:

Thanks guys - should be really good and the results should start to be seen shortly as this is going to be Peter's primary focus now

I've given full artistic license over to Peter with the engine :thumleft:
I've only stated that I want it clean, modern and looking the part. The emphasis is being that less is more. What Peter chooses to do with it is entirely up to him so I am also watching the engine transformation pictures eagerly

A 3SFE coffee table :-k On second thoughts it would be nice not to have to look at that engine ever ever again...

Fantastic stuff. Really glad you went the whole hog and yacked the FE out! Reading way back when you started this thread what your plans were for it, basically tidy up, clean up get it running right, and now a heart transplant and overhaul..! Just shows how these cars give people the bug! When it`s in and running we need a video with sound please!

They certainly are very addictive cars! Just don't look at the amount you've spent on it during your ownership otherwise you'll have a small heart attack!

Only a very brief update today...
Peter moved the engine from the hoist onto a stand today:

Image

And he has started to work on it very quickly today

Image

Should be some more updates tomorrow :thumleft:

Peter further stripped the engine down today and its getting close to almost being a naked block where all the interesting work can be carried out

More updates to come shortly

Thanks for the heads up - I have passed the info onto Peter who is going to be ordering one for me :thumleft:

Over this weekend Peter has been mapping out the wiring loom from the Lexus so that it can be fitted as well as possible and with relative ease into EOR. This also gives us the possibility to strip out some defunct wires, and prevents him having to fiddle around in the engine bay working out what everything does.

Rather him than me - this is my idea of pure hell!!

This week should be a great one with loads of progress

To be honest Peter won't need to work out where everything goes or what wires to use, i'm on the phone to him practically everyday and i'll just tell him if he is unsure on something.

However you do still need to change your sig and thread title :D
