They need to put whatever is wrong right if there is anything wrong with the engine.

I'd then take it to one of the specialists and ask then to give it a check up. You may find the engine is good but you have other issues causing you troubles. They'll also tell you if the engine sounds good. If the specialists say its ok, it ok. If they say its xxxxx, take it back again.

Good advice.

I don't know of one single healthy engine, MR2 or not, that has a knock of any sort at any rpm.

I don't need to compare it with any in my workshop. None of them knock.

Well the water tank is empty again, so must have a leak somwhere?

Ive looked but cant see any signs of the belt. Unless its on a road some where?

The exhaust temp light wasnt on, but come on all on a sudden with the other two warning lights. But I also have a exhaust temp gauge which doesnt appear to be working since engine fitted.

The Fan was kicking in, but with a knocking noise, but since the 3 warning lights come on, I havent heard the knocking any more.

The knocking noise I have, is the same noise I had on old engine which I was told was bottom end, so cross contamination, or a bu88ered engine fitted.

A well documented fault. I've had two in the workshop since Christmas. Unrelated to engine internals.

Its either an alternator fault or a break in the loom between alternator and fuse box. Probably in the black/yellow wire.

Cat temp. Only lights up if cat temp exceeded. So not needed if no cat. Obvious when you trhink about it.

So the 3 warning lights are down to the altonator? Get that sorted then only water and knocking issue to sort.

Read my reply again.

The water and knocking issues are far more serious.

Get whoever did the engine for you to have a look and rectify any faults that they are responsible for. :thumleft:

Exhaust temp.

Post by cosmos »

Did 4ndee referring to exhaust temp really mean LAMDA sensor?

Long shot but could there be a coolant pipe steel/rubber be squashed or kinked partially blocked causing a caviting nock as the water cycles.

I ment cat temp not lambda sensor you dont have be a tool about it as you repeated what I said. It was pretty obvious as a lambda sensor isnt a temperature sensor

If i'm a tool for correcting your b0ll0x, then so be it, but if it makes your world a nice place to live in, i apologise.

And since when were crystal balls an obligatory accessory for reading this forum?

In any case, we've established what the sensor is, it's function, and when decatted, it is no longer required.

Right so the car has just been collected. So as guessed, there is no alternator belt attached. As for the water, they are going empty it out. Fill it up and take it for a long run to check how much is lost. As for the engine knock, this time I've been assured its not bottom end but a vibrating heat shield?

Precisely why threads like this should not be allowed, or be severely moderated until the supplier has seen the car.
