Turbo Gearbox Differences?

Post by MR2 Rich »

I have had a good search around on here but can't find any conclusive info on the differences between the gearboxes on the different revisions. Am I right in thinking only the Rev1's had the weak synchro?

Rev1/2's had single synchros, Rev3+ had double synchros.

Thanks Slarty, so if a Rev3 gearbox feels ok and I change the oil to MT90 GL4 and replace the bushes on the selectors it should be a more reliable box than the NA rev2 box? :thumleft:

Hard to give a definitive answer really. I'm sure there's plenty of people out there running big BHP through earlier boxes but they are known for weak synchros.

But it is good to know it's a stronger box to start with :thumleft:

It's certainly stronger with respect to synchros yes, but as for it being stronger overall, I couldn't say.
