Hi all,
At high RPM (5k-7k) and high speed I find it hard to put it into the next gear. This is happening in 3rd, 4th and 5th.
I am going to change the gear box oil but before I do so, has anyone seen this before? Is it fatal?
Thanks in advance

You may need to bleed or adjust the clutch bite point, sounds like it may be too low

Could it be synchro issues? Although would this happen at all RPM's?

Could be syncro issues, I have problems shifting into 3rd mostly over 7500rpm
I am changing to a rev 3 box as they have dual syncros, as stated check your slave cylinder is disengaging the clutch properly first as this could be the cause, there is clutch pedal adjustment also.

There was a big thread on this on the usa board, iirc many people experimented with changing linkages, boxes, clutches, clutch components etc without much improvement. i think they did find a solution but i cannot remember -it was some 10 pages long i think! ill see if i can find it.

Thanks Ryan, would be useful to read.
Just been out in the car and gear changes at low speeds/rpm's go into gear but are very notchy (not smooth at all). Could the issues be related?

Where is the clutch bite point?

I would say quite low compared to other cars I have driven.

Ok, that is the problem then.
Try bleeding the clutch first then adjust the pedal to bring the bite point up.
The clutch is not releasing enough so making it hard to change gear.

Could be slave cylinder? Mines doing the same only a lot worse and have noticed the slave cylinder is leaking badly

Bob, why would it not release as well at high rpm's?
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Gear Change Difficult at High RPM/Speed
In addition to what's been mentioned already you should also check that you do no have loose or stripped gearbox mounting bolts.
This gave me difficulty shifting above 5k as well

Yeh the front mount tears out quite easily, I tapped m12x1.75 bolts into mine years ago and it's never come away since.
Single syncros old and worn just make gear changing worse over time, but if your bit point is on the floor you need to adjust the pedal as it could be as simple as your not getting enough movement to disengage the clutch fully which is making life difficult and that will only wear the gearbox more.
I have had 2 slave cylinders in ten years, if its old and your unsure just replace it. Mine lasted ten years each as first one was original and went soon after i got the car in 2003 and second one was recent.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Gear Change Difficult at High RPM/Speed
Not sure if its a related problem but while ive been looking for a tubby rev3+ ive noticed a few have selected gears crunching at high revs.. Im sure there were 2 ads that say from 4th to 3rd and there were 2 or 3 more ads but cant remember what they said.
One is on imoc for sale and it says a synchro issue, others mentioned synchro aswell so just wondering if this is a common issue and how much it could see me spending to fix if i did buy one of them? Also what work does it entail?
Thanks

i fitted one of these which helped, along with "smurfs blood" gearbox oil.
