Insurance time again!

Post by munter »

Yep its that time again.

I'm with Footman James but they have put my cover up by around £60 this year so I'm thinking I'll move on. It's now just a shade under £300 for FC on the modified Supercharger (limited to 4,500 miles per year)

It would be helpful to know who you found good quotes from previously? I found a few specialists would insure a MK1 NA but not the SC last year for some reason so keen to hear from any SC owners.

Thanks

Hi there, I pay about £160 FC for my 1988 SC via Houghton. I am limited to 3,000 miles and its my third car. Hope that helps.

Just to let you know that in the end with the latest mods Footman James was coming in at £360.

Adrian Flux offered £260 on 5k miles (extra 500) and virtually identical cover so I went with them.

Houghtons couldnt do anything for me...

cheers

Adrian Flux quoted me £700 odds on the MK2 last month - strangely, Aviva managed to beat that by £200!

I am paying £140 with agreed value etc, £140 with Adrian flux 3000 miles limited no prob for me though only managed 1200 last year

I was with Peter best but they put the policy up to £200 from £125 so I thought an inctrease of that size for nothing was worth moving for.

I'm certainly paying more because of the bigger cam pulley and the fact its an import Supercharger. The other mods such as lowered suspension really didnt seem to make a difference but adding the 30 bhp or so by doing this and the ABV has put it up by a clear 20% in the case of Footman James.

I think another big factor is that its on the road overnight even though my post code is good. Will see if the move next month out to the sticks with a garage makes any difference.

Still I'm happy with £260.

Tomorrow is MOT day so hopefully I'll still be just as happy this time tomorrow...

Just had my renewal through from Flux for the track car. Need to have words with them this year as they want just over £300 for TPFT on a car which barely sees any road use and they seem to have no record of most of the mods I've declared in the past.

I begrudge paying any insurance on it at all considering I only want enough cover to meet my legal responsibilities and virtually all of the road use falls into the following categories:

moving the car to/from the lockup where it's stored 1/2 mile down the road
moving the car to/from work 4 miles away where the trailer is stored
short road tests after doing work on the car
1-2 longer trips per year (JAE plus maybe 1 sprint if the trailer is booked by someone else)

It seems that finding insurance where the price accurately reflects the risk associated with this kind of usage is damned near impossible though

I'm struggling to get quotes at the moment for the SC I've just imported. Most of the companies that ostensibly offer to insure imports just seem to read from the list of standard UK Mk1 models or ask me is that the 'GT Turbo sir?'.

Sky sounded like they knew what they were talking about but unfortunately couldn't do anything because I don't have any NCB.

Have tried Adrian Flux who didn't seem bothered about whether it was supercharged or not. They only seemed to care that it was some sort of import which sounds a bit iffy.

Currently waiting for Footman James to call back.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.
