How to: Fit a TOM's spoiler

Post by synXero »

Already on the e-mails to CardHore about this, and he's saying he'll find the time some day to get some useful photos for me.

Still, anyone got any tips?

Apparently, it's supposed to attach with one screw per leg towards the engine-side of the bootlid, and then with a mysterious clip towards the back of the bootlid. Here's a quick photo of the spoiler foot:

You could bend something round into the spoiler through that square hole.

As yet, I have no idea how it fits onto the bootlid...

might be the same as a bomex ducktail spoiler i took off a car i was breaking once - looks similar, its a clamp that goes onto the outer edge of the actual bootlid, iirc it was a [ shaped piece of metal with littel grub screws to secure it

hope that helps

Yeah that's how mine was fitted, though after i got the car re-sprayed i used windscreen bond as well as the clips didn't inspire confidence

synXero i can take some pics if you like, i think the clips are still in place. The clips go into the holes on the spolier and clamp round the edge of the bootlid

Please do Joey dude. Like you say I am a little unconvinced by clipping a spoiler onto a 200bhp car. I could theoretically screw into the spoiler legs but you'd only get one shot at it!!

is the base of that double sided tape??? and no screw holes?? just out of curiosity, are the feet of the spolier the same as a rev3 spoiler?? ie. direct replacement.

Negative shep, it's just a rubber water seal. One screw hole per leg.

hmmmmm....i'd be tempted to change it to double sided tape and just leave the clips.

the 3m double sided tape is strong as feck, i've lost a few GoPro camera mounts at gigs because of it, had to leave the mounts at gigs due to them being IMPOSSIBLE to move!!!

That isn't a bad idea at all. Is it thick? If so it'd serve both purposes quite nicely.

Good man!

That looks very plausible. If the metal extended far enough into the inside of the spoiler I'd be pretty confident with that.

well, the stuff on my gopro mounts wasn't thick, maybe around 3mm thick at the very most i guess, i think you can buy varying degrees of thickness though, it would probably act as a good seal too, beware, every surface must be bone dry when using it, if it gets a bit of water on it, it's completely useless, once it's applied water isn't a problem, i have a camera mount stuck on my snowboard to confirm this :)
