Very quick washer jet question

Post by KarlBristol »

I'm going to replace my washer jets with wide spray ones.....

I know that the Yaris ones are meant to retro fit very well and easily.

Question is - is it standard on all models of Yaris or am I after a specific model of Yaris that I need to source them from?

It's not standard on the yaris.

I picked three sets off three broken yariseseses and all three were dual jet like the mr2 but at a less usable angle - straight into the wiper blades, due to yaris's juxtaposition of windscreen & bonnet.

I believe it is simply luck of the draw. Let me know if you do find anything.

The ones that are standard on new Volvos are great. I don't know if they fit the 2 though... Don't see why not.

Thank you very much for the head up - that was an interesting read :thumleft:

I hadn't seen anyone mentioning any negatives about them before. With a more objective view I now won't be purchasing these so you've just saved me some cash.

I've found this set which claim that they are wide washer jets designed to fit the mr2 and with elbows if needed. However I fear that £50 for something that squirts a bit of water might be a tad dear :-k

There's bound to be a good oem alternative elsewhere...

Lot of money for a few bits of pipe! dont do it.

My objection wasnt really the fitting but the fact the washers aimed into the wiper (therese no direction control on them).

They also look a bit too big IMO - just make sure your exisuting ones are clean using a pin or something.

Dont worry - I certainly don't have that kind of money to play with on little bits of pipe

Washer jets with no directional control is a definite big no no in my eyes. I thought initially that they were adjustable. I also wasn't aware of the size thing - everyone I spoke to about switching out the stock ones suggested these initially. It clearly pays to do some homework :D lol

Insignia ones give a perfect spray spray and they are adjustable. Unfortunately they are completely the wrong shape... Now maybe if Insignia and MR2 jets could be frankensteined together we would have the best of both worlds...

Clearly some more investigation needed :-k

Saying that - my new Octavia has perfect washer jets for it. Very fine wide angle and full screen coverage. They are adjustable as well......

Not sure what shape they are though so I may have to do some more investigation today. Hhhmmmmm

The Yaris washer jets give a similar spray patter to those Volvo ones and are a straight swap for the standard jets.

If you look at Jeff's comments/linked thread above you will see thay Yaris ones are impractical on the MR2 for a variety of reasons and are not advised :thumleft:

How are they at speed, Nic? One complaint the Celica guys make of the Ovlov jets is they woose out at speed.

Have to say I've had the Yaris ones on for a good few years now, and they're not too bad. A few points:

1: They are indeed at too shallow an angle as fitted, they spray straight at the wiper blades. However, when you think about it, it's not really an issue because as soon as you activate the washers, the wipers turn on. Yes the water does hit a little low on the screen, but the wipers kind of "scoop" the water up onto the rest of the screen so it's never been an issue for me personally.

2: I'm not certain, but I "think" the part number provided is for one side of the jet pair. If you look straight on at the jets, the hole is set off centre. You can actually see it too when they spray, the pattern isn't quite right but again, I don't have an issue with it personally.

3: At speed they're fine, in fact the faster you go the higher up the screen the jet hits but as mentioned in point 1, because they start off quite low, they don't go so high as to useless at speed.

Hope that helps :)
