[Mk2] [Generic] Manufacturers still selling 43-46mm boost gauges?

Post by Marlowe »

As title really. Peter advised me while fitting the CT20b to my Rev 2 that I needed to re-install a boost gauge.

Ideally if I can I want to keep the interior looking stockish so I'd like to try to replace the pointless stock boost controller. Unfortunately I'm struggling finding anyone still selling 43-46mm dials; they all seem to be 52mm+ now.

Does anyone know of a place I could try? Tried searching the usual places without luck and not really that up on other places to look.

Cheers. :)

I think EMS Powered used to do them, but I can't say for sure whether it'll be any use.

The ems gauge works a treat, read the same as my ebc did and had some nice features. Much easier to tell how much boost your making than looking at a gauge whilst driving.

Cheers guys - still in stock at $149. :) A bit pricy but if I can't find anything cheaper I know I can find one still. :)

Shinny I know your handy with electrics, do you think it would be possible to swap the back light on the rspec to blue? By led change? Obviously this would void the warranty though.

Sorry to hijack slightly

you cannot mate. it's not possible, i've had one into a million bits, there's no replaceable bulb or led :( i tried the blue film trick, didn't work, just duls down the amber one. omori do a blue one with a red needle.

Have you got a picture of the insides?

I bet there are SMD LEDs mounted on the circuit board - there certainly are on my cheap 52mm gauge. They're entirely replaceable but very fiddly! I suspect the 45mm gauge does not have a dedicated LED for the red needle so you'd want to install white LEDs and use a blue film for the backdrop.

Amber light through a blue filter results in pretty much nothing. Filters remove light of the wrong colour, they don't change the colour of the light hitting them.

No pics I'm afraid, it was a broken gauge that was in the car, it might possible to change it, but it must be tiny and is soldered in, I couldn't even see the LEd :-(

Just to give you an idea what it might have looked like, highlighted here are some SMD LEDs on the inside of an XBox:
