Seem to be losing top end power in my rev1 auto.
Car flies up to 80mph no problem changing gear just before the redline but around 80ish it changes up into 3rd and then just seems to take an eternity to creep up to 100. Revs are around 5-6000 but just doesnt wanna seem to go any more. Any suggestions?

Re: Auto advice
Why do you need to travel at 100, isnt 80 fast enough?

Hi Mate,
Probably a silly question but how are you driving it?
I mean what buttons ? PWR mode, MANU mode OD on/off?
Mine always goes a bit sluggish when I drive with the OD on as it always trys to get up to 4th, but with the OD off it is a lot more responsive (but your MPH drops)

Is this a UK auto, if so the answer lies in your engine bay

No its an import. I've tried it with the o/d on and off and I get ther same thing really. Hits 80MPH fast as anything, changes up to 3rd and then seems to have nothing more. Creeps slowly up to 100 and evens out around 5-6000 revs.
Re: Auto advice
Hmmm......
I am sure mine carries on pulling past 80 normally though and definately does when in PWR mode.
Dont really know what to suggest, clutching at straws but, when was the last time you changed the trans fluid?

Re: Auto advice
Another long shot, is the box definitely running through all four gears? sounds like it may be shifting from 2nd into 4th. The overdrive is controlled electronically, possibly a fault? I seem to recall that if the temp sensor fails the box won't select third. [/quote]

Re: Auto advice
mine did the same.
I got a rev 3
power button down
1st to 45
2nd to 85
3rd to 120 and limits
4th same as above but cuts in at 105 with od off,
Manu button down
1st to 50
2nd to 90
3rd and 4th see above!
When mine died when it changed to 3rd I did following...
Checked all timing marks (cams etc) and made sure they were cool!
when that was done I adjusted the dizzy to get correct timing and the result...
Much better 80 to 100 was like the day I bought it!

Hi terminater2_uk
I just had a thought,
Have you check to see if there are any error codes stored in the ECU of the auto box ?
Same as checking the enging but count the flashes from the OD light.
Just a thought

Yeah I've checked for error codes there arent any. Might check the timing though, could be slightly out. Thanks for all the suggestions
Re: Auto advice
Hi:
I had a similar kind of problem that *may* be related in that my TVIS actuator pipe had split just where it connected to the actual actuator. I think it is abbreviated TVIS. But it's the 4 butterfly valves in the intake system that open at higher rpm to increase the size of the intake plenum.
As a result of the split they were not coming open and the engine was stunted somewhat at high speed. It would be going like the clappers. Then, there would be an unnatural slowing down of the rate of acceleration and a funny kind of engine note. I don't know what made me check out this pipe, just one of those moments of inspiration after reading through the Toyota manual quite at random. But the darned thing was split so the TVIS was not responding.
So on that I replaced *all* the vacuum lines as the pipe is available from Toyota at relatively little cost. From memory, you can buy a 1M or a 3M length and just cut to size. Perhaps worth checking in your case.
Regards,
Jim
