[Mk2] [Turbo] K36 UNL V12

Post by 37831999 »

Bit of progress on my build, thanks to Paul at Woodsport I now have a gearbox sorted ( once funds clear lol )

Rebuilding the V12 is becoming expensive! The final bill plus VAT ( bloody VAT! ) is £1451.40 for the 2 cylinder heads to be made new again. After doing some research on the m70 BMW engine i found that these engines bottom end are very strong being able to do 150,000 plus miles and still have big ends and bores like new! I havent looks at my bottom end yet, but can see bores are perfect! Hopefully I don't have to do any bottom end work and save a few quid!

Hopefully get the heads back tomorrow and will post some pics

Here is where the battery tray used to sit, once the manual steering rack is on it'll be clear for the exhaust pipes and boost pipe to go through

There's a few reasons I'm putting the turbo up front.
Firstly it's to distribute the weight as evenly as I can,
It allows the exhaust manifold to join together at the front of the engine in to one large single exhaust pipe. Again maintaining equal balance left and right. Also the turbo is just tooooo big to mount in the back! Lol

O_O

This is even more bonkers now than it was last time I was on TB. When do you expect to get it running?

I don't really have an expected finishing date, just cracking on with it when I get the time. I'm hoping by mid next year maybe.

That is just insane, I love that this level of insanity is still alive and well in a society where most people want instant off the shelf gratification, on a disposable basis. I salute you OP!!!

I was like that before I decided this, I had a lovely 3sgte which was almost ready! RMR inlet, tubucular exhaust mani, high lift cams, ported head. But all I could think of was is any of this even remotely original? And It bugged me lol
