new projet 2 tone

Post by mk1 dal »

hi , i sold my white over gray car and took this car in as a trade in for something to do over the winter months . its not to bad at all only needing the rear arch doing rust wise .

pics off car after a bloody good mopping

Image

Image

wanting to keep the cost down on this project i used an old front wing for a replacement for the rear arch , the profile is spot on but is only good for about 40 mm of lip edge anymore and you will need the replacement arch of ebay or the n12 cherry arch what Paul woods discovered fits years ago .

arch cut out

Image

tacked in then fully welded .

Image

Image

the rear arch return fabricated and welded in and blended with the arch

Image

Image

lining out for the 2 tone , 6mm and 3 mm lining tape used for the arch profiles , the original paint was flatted first and then bar coated then 2 packed primed ready for the base coat .

Image

in base coat

Image

Image

then clear coat put on and unwrapping the result and loving it , the blue is super editions blue and its a fabulous colour .

hope you like it , i do

Nice job on the arch repair, but it looks like you painted straight over the sideskirts and seals in situ? Is it still white under there?

Naughty naughty [-X

Looks nice though. :thumleft:

Great job. Looks fantastic .Just wondering is there a ridge between Blue & White & how do you blend it in?.

hi paul , not been naughty mate  . i painted the bottom first, removed all the kit and front splitters as the drivers side was damaged and replaced with a new one . i then refitted the lot with a few fixings so i could paint it easier and get a even spray on the kit to match the main body .

hi tim , there is a ridge between the blue and white but its very slight , the only way to blend it in is to lacquer the sides of the car , this will then seal over the ridge , but i would have the do the whole car so it matched up . this will be done over x mas when i change the white to 040 white in stead of 043 white .

Good man Gary, being a painter myself it's a personal hate of mine when people just paint over things like that , top job :thumleft:

is it just me, or does the drivers side headlight need realigned a little to close up the gap between the lid and the bumper?
(still loving the paint scheme)

It looks good enough from a distance, the pics are very low res.

What's it like?

its very good body wise with very very little corrosion and runs a treat but the paint looks tried with slight peel on the bonnet . it did machine polish up but it still needs a fresh paint job to be right .
