Its a stock turbo that has been modified with uprated parts (which is where the hybrid part of the name comes from :) )

The more modifications to it the more expensive the turbo usually..

Thanks Steve, same power as stock then but with uprated parts to improve reliability?

No necessarily, most hybrids have bigger compressor and/or turbine wheels, which enable them to flow more cfm - which in turn equals more power at the same boost levels over stock.

Naturally, the bigger the wheel, the more lag you get, although it's not a huge concern over a moderately hybridised turbo

The stock turbo housings are machined to accept new turbine/compressor wheels, shaft, bearings and seals. The turbine and compressor wheel specifications vary but they are usually larger in diameter compared to stock, which means increased airflow, so provided there is sufficient fueling to support the larger airflow the car will make more power at the same boost pressure but at the expense of some extra lag.

Hybrid turbos can suffer from premature bearing/seal wear, plus flowing more air through the stock turbo housings will lead to high temps. For these reasons if you are wanting moderate performance gains with the best spooling characteristics I'd go with a modern off the shelf DBB turbo and exhaust manifold adapter instead.
