[Mk2] [Generic] Changing the roof liner colour??

Post by Ryan S »

ok, it's always bugged me that the roof lining and t-bar blinds are grey on the inside, i have stuff at work that could change it to black, it's ink i use on black carpet and mats, it bloody stinks though, smells toxic, i know the car would stink for ages if i used it, has anyone done this before??

any other options???

Cheers :thumleft:

possibly, the ink stuff i have dries in almost instantly so i doubt that would be a problem, i just don't wanna use it due to the toxic smell

There were factory black linings, might be worth looking for them first.

I think REV 1's came with black interior plus thicker carpet! You would also need to change the sun visors & interior light housing for the full affect.

Look out for a breaker near you.

Edit: and T-Bar shades.

I changed the headlining in my rev3 from grey to black. It's a bit of a pain getting the new headlining in without bending it but other than that fairly straight forward. Can be done without removing the seats but you do have to remove a lot of trim.

As mentioned, you will want interior lamp and blinds (and blind clips) to match. I got mine from a rev1 turbo, it was a bit of a pain to find one for a tintop. I imagine replacing it on a t-bar is a nightmare!

I did the change in my previous REV3 T-Bar.

It was actually fairly easy if memory serves me right. Just take your time and remove the T-bars, sun visors, interior light, and rearview mirror first. Headlining is clipped to the roof. Just lift the T-Bar rubbers a bit to see where the headlining starts.

Actually thinking about it I guess the t-bar headlining is easier to get into the car and manoever around the seats etc than a tintop or sunroof one - the cut outs for the t-bars will fit around the B pillars nicely.

VHT sell carpet and trim colour dye. Used it on my old E36 coupe when changing the plasticated trim from grey to black. Worked perfectly - you would never have known......

Claustrophobia I expect. Having a black headlining does make the interior feel a bit smaller.
