Black 1993 - MR2 Rev 3 N/A - 'Tin Top' - Offers welcome

Post by RobPhoboS »

(more photo's and details coming ASAP, and maybe a video for the exhaust)

So after around 4 years of ownership, I'm having to put my brilliant little MR2 up for sale.
I hadn't planned on selling the car for quite a while yet, or even at all as I wanted to turn it eventually into a track only car.
I was just given an opportunity and decided only a couple of weeks ago to buy another car.
But logistically I have no where to put the MR2 now :(

Japanese rev 3 - 1993 (late) n/a MR2
Mileage - 115k (apx)
Taxed until - 31/01/2013
MOT until - 10/08/2013
(I believe I have all of the MOT slips since my ownership, same advisory - noisy exhaust :D )
Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm/Immobiliser

Just a couple of months ago in North Wales:
Image

Mileage as of today 23/10/2012 (note I will run the car each day for about 15-20 mins so it'll creep up a bit)

S.R.R day earlier this year :thumleft:

Replaced:
Jmec ECU - Rev's to 8100rpm (original ECU available)
Japspeed air intake
Bomex UAD180 lip
Potential one off - hill climb de-cat exhaust (sounds fantastic, really screams at the top end - very vocal above 3000rpm)
EBC Yellow Stuff Pads - Fitted mid March 2012
EBC discs - Fitted mid March 2012
Eibach rear camber bolts - December 2011
TRD HT Leads

Toyo T1R Tyres (fronts fitted June 2012)
Front tread depth - driver = 8mm passenger = 8mm
Rear tread depth - driver = 3mm passenger = 3mm

Motul RBF 600 Brake fluid
BC Racing Coilovers - June 2011
Whiteline ARB - Winter 2011
Nardi steering wheel
Razo pedals - perfect for h&t :)

Alternator - 2011
Battery - June 2012
Water pump - Summer 2009
Oil pump - Summer 2009
Cam belt - Summer 2009
Clutch - Summer 2009
Rear bearings - Summer 2009
Starter motor - 2010
Drop links - 2010 (still great condition)
Harness drivers side
Fire extinguisher
Spark plugs - 2011
Fuel filter
Dizzy cap

Summer 2009 stuff was done by Luke at Pacific Works.
All of the other tricky stuff was done by 3S, and simple stuff by me :D
I've tried to put down the dates as I remember them but stupidly I didn't keep a file of it all.

Good Points:
Well looked after car - I've spent most of my money ensuring it was reliable for the daily commute.
Strong engine - 171.8bhp when others of rev3+ were more like 150bhp.
Body resprayed from white to black last December, and wheels very dark grey/black.
Doesn't drink or leak oil (Gulf 5w 40 used).
Folding electric mirrors (bloody handy)
Leather & Alcantara(?) seats.

Annoying Points:
Advise softer spring set (full set = £120 from BC Racing) - Nothing wrong with them but the front driver side spring turns slightly (esp when damp), it makes a clunging/twang sound sometimes (we can't see why).
It could do with full polishing to remove typical swirl marks. The respray was very cheap, so it needs touching up occasionally.
10mph out on the markings for the odometer - so 80mph indicated is actually 70mph.
Some complete berk clipped the passenger side rear wheel arch in the car park - photo's to come (not badly, chipsaway could possibly fix it).

Bad Points:
Air con doesn't work any more (rad replacement).
No stereo (hasn't bothered me for 4 years though).
Right side of dash lights aren't working, just a bulb replacement required.

The geo was done last year at Wheels in Motion, if you're planning to use it on the road as I did, I'd advise their set up.
If you change the springs, or if I get time to, then you'll need to get this done again anyway but you can take the print out with you to get anyone to set the car up as it was.

Location = Farnham, Surrey (close to A31)

£1400 ono

NO p/x obviously

Popped a price up now.
And just getting a reading for the tread depths on the tyres.

Just to note, I can't get any photo's in daylight until Saturday, as I get home pretty late from London every day.

Appreciate the patience guys.

Engine bay needs a bit of a scrub again, so will try and do that as well.

Don't be shy to make an offer on it, I'm more than willing to negotiate a price we'd both be happy with (as I just had a stab in the dark with the price).
:thumleft:

Weekend viewings are probably better for you as during the week I get back in when it's dark, either way is cool :thumleft:

Just a brief update.

The spring noise:
I've been told by Jez what causes it when I was at Horsham Developments last week.
Essentially only the bottom of the strut is turning when the wheel is turning at very slow speeds, and it just twangs once it's moved into position.
It just need a bit of lube at the top of the strut which I shall sort out this weekend and I'll report back to confirm this :thumleft:

I wasn't sure on the price initially but if it seemed a bit steep (?) here is a revision on that.

The car is still available, although may be put on SORN and stored in a very secure, dry location. It will be about 30 mins from my house, so if anyone is interested I'll need fair warning as I can't just nip into where it'll be stored.

Whilst it's there I can polish the paint, clean the engine bay again and perhaps try and sort the dash bulb out as well
The spring noise seems to have gone now that it's lubed :thumleft:

That twang just normally means the spring needs compressing more. It's just turning with shocker instead of staying. Slight adjustment and it's gone.

Car looks epic btw :thumleft: almost exactly the same power as my Rev3.

The car is now on it's merry way to Belgium :)
A fantastic Toyota enthusiast came over, brought cash, beer AND chocolates with him :thumleft:
Looking forwards in seeing what he'll do with it over time.
