Superb fuel economy

Post by oukie »

I recently completed my JAE 716 mile round trip, I got in at 15.50.

So, on the way down I left my house at 06.20 went to the Shell garage topped up the tank with V-power zerod the clock. I went down the A68, which was fun but I got stuck behind an artic lorry carring pigs, I spent 25 miles behind it before I was able to pass :(, I then joined the A1 right the way down to Stamford and joined the A43, arrived at JAE just after 13.00, so a total jurney time of 6 hrs and 40 mins. I stopped for a toilet break but put in NO fuel.
I did 351  The fuel light started coming on at 340 miles but was going on off etc then stayed on at 345 miles.

I then filled up the next morning with Tesco 99ron as I don't know if there was a Shell in Kettering I managed to squeeze in 38 litres and zerod clock.

Today I packed up and left JAE at just after 9am but I drove down to local McDonalds and had breakfast I rang my misses and left at 10.44 am.

I drove back past Wickstead park, I looked at the oddometer it read 5 miles, then I went onto the A43 up to Stamford, onto the A1, Drove the entire way to Edingburgh, NO stops I just kept going, I got home at 15.50 so a total drive time of 6hrs and 6mins, But I had covered 367 miles
The fuel light has started coming off on etc, but was not on full when I parked my car in the garage.

Now before anyone asks I drove spirited down the A68 till I got stuck behind a lorry, when I joined the A1 I drove to the speed limits maybe 75 max.

I drove the entire way back at the speed limits again maybe 75 max on the A1 etc. Now I still havent worked out exact MPG or average speed but both trips have beaten my previous best of 330 miles again using V-Power/99ron.

Nice, shows she's running well Chris. :thumleft:

The Sillycar has done 330 miles and still has just under a quarter tank left but it is a bigger tank than the MK1.

Was good to see you again dude. 8)

Best I have gotten is 520 km (307 miles) with a tankful but I only get about 35 litres in at that point.

Thats a nice figure Chris!
About 214 miles for me yesterday. Top gear style same pump at same petrol station on v power (1.49 a litre ouch, i felt like the handle needed some lube!) but clicked off at £32.94 but stretched it to like 33 something or other.

Yeah Chris, she never skipped a beat, not bad for a 22 year old car, nice to see and catch up with you to mate.

I did 130miles on a tank last fill up. Not very efficent :-k

Then again looking at my rear tyres they're showing signs of rapid deterioration recently, I think this may give us a clue in diagnosing my poor fuel economy. Anybody care to take a guess.......

Racing up to the redline all the time?

Depends how the tires are wearing and what tires they are.

Got to be EURO related

Tyres are kind of just wearing really quickly and looking like they're melting a bit. :-k

Any more info would really help, treadwear rating, traction ratings, sizes pressures, etc...

You were right first time.

Hold the revs at 6800 and drop the clutch. Repeat :-$

There's a slight smell of clutch, blended with burnt tyres. :pale:

Not yet so far just seems a really quick way of getting the VVTL-i to kick in :eye:

I will say I do normally get much better economy.

About 250 miles from a tank if I'm having a bit of fun and up to 270 if driving carefully

I do always fill up when the light comes on normally about 33 litres to fill

So about 35-37mpg. I'm very happy with that and love having 190bhp on tap when I want it.
