They're a lovely engine, much nicer to use everyday than the gen3 3SGTE :thumleft: Downside is less ability to turn up the boost due to the higher CR.

Makes me wonder why this isn't a more common swap!

Mostly sold in Japan. Engines are easily sourcable though.
The swap entails some custom work, making it a no-no for a big population i guess.

Would say a rev3 head bolt onto the caldina block? I remember reading on the us oc somewhere that the gen4 oilpump can be used in the gen3 block also.

edit: found it

Compression ratio isn't really an issue, the only limiting factor is the con rods as they use the same rods as the beams and are a tad lighter than the gen 3 rods, makes for better response but could limit max torque/bhp figures.

That said there are so many positives to this engine, 260hp using a turbo designed for fast spool and not so much for power, says it all :thumleft:

Sure! It was sold again on ebay recently.

Was a great car and wouldn't hesitate to have another if I could only have one (practical but reasonably brisk) car. Also how can you resist any car with a Kenny Loggins soundtrack?
