[Mk2] [NA] LSD worthwhile purchase ?

I do this every so often, just have a look at some potential parts to fit but I was always curious about retrofitting an LSD onto my car.

However, I've no idea what the fitting procedure is (I'd most likely see if James at 3S could do it), and if there are other bits n pieces that I'd need in order to do it ?

Anyway, nice to dream and ponder about these things sometimes, right ?

I think the Quaiffe is a better choice for a road or light track car. It would need to be fitted by a Quaiffe specialist to retain the warrenty which is normally lifetime.

I see no reason why any competent automotive engineer especially one experienced in building gearboxes couldn't fit it properly.

If you have it installed by a quaife dealer you get a full warrenty not just the 'delivered fit for purpose' warrenty mentioned there.

Bit like Ford saying their parts are only warranted if fitted by a Ford dealer - EU laws cut that restrictive rubbish out years ago.

From Quaife themselfs when I enquired.

I would say the clause about appropriate installation would require the installer to be Quaife trained given the specialist nature of the product and that would be enough to uphold a warrenty rejection.

Thanks for bringing this point up, something I hadn't even considered. I guess if you're coughing up just over £500 on a part (plus fitting), it's probably worth having an extended warranty.

As I mentioned before, are there any other parts I'd need, or is this something that is a direct replacement/fit ? (I've really 0 idea )

Cant think of any parts needed but I'd be looking at a new clutch and light flywheel if I were taking the box off.

Hmm, the clutch is about 2 years old, so should be ok for now but a lightened flywheel could be handy.

the mk3 lsd does indeed fit, got one in my n/a along with the longer ratio 5th it's well worth doing. i paid £80 for a knackered mk3 gearbox of which there are quite a few about as the bearings go in them then i diy fitted it. woodsport fit them for about £400(£550 with gearbox still fitted) or a local gearbox specialist would probably charge around £200 if you supplied the diff and gearbox
