kayjay's MK3 project

Post by kayjay0_7 »

getting somewhat bored with my MK2 V6 so decided to get a MK3 to play with (V6 will be sorned minus some bits for the time being)

Picked the MK3 up last week Friday , quite happy with the fact that it is all kitted up but definitely needs a new wheels

Image

After a really good look around it over the weekend , it turns out that the suspension is quite bad so ordered up some bits from MRT and Camskill

Full set of KYB shocks

Image

Tein lowering springs

Image

New brake discs

Image

Started replacing the passenger side suspension only to find that the locking nut socket was the wrong one, so had to find a means of removing all four nuts

Got the passenger side done , will hopefully get the drivers side done tomorrow afternoon

Looks good mate. Talking about wheels still got your old ones in mint condition. Find myself parking like a granny now

got the drivers side front and rear shocks and springs fitted today

came across a broken spring and blown shock absorber

Image

and all new bits fitted

Image

had forgotten to order a set of droplinks for the rears (had to cut them off) , Luckily I have a full set that was going onto the v6 and one set is the exact length

Tomorrows job will be to complete the passengers rear side and chop the remaining bits of droplinks off the rear ARB

Once the suspension is done, it is time to get rid of the precats (I will hopefully be ordering up a stainless manifold from Ben (carbenfibre creations)

Dont really like the roadster seats so I hope to pull the recaro's out of my mk2 and get them fitted

It's a 2001 on a 51 plate so drive it till it dies and then get a 2zz engine for it
:-k

Other projects wil include

Getting a facelift front bumper ( if the lip will fit on to it)
Renew the arb's
New wheels and tyres

And that is it for now

I've never been a fan of the looks of the stock MK3. However with a bit of aftermarket loveliness they come up really well. :thumleft:

I'll be following this one. Not physically, that would be weird

The facelift front bumper has a two-piece front lip rather than the pre facelift single piece.
Although I've not tried it I don't think your current lip will fit a face lift bumper.

got the rear suspension completed today , forgot that the droplinks always rust up and you end up having to cut them off , Luckily I had purchased a full set for the v6 and the one set was the exact length

Image

also had to pay MrT a visit this morning, had ordered up all the exhaust gaskets as i'm not sure the pre cats have been removed

also got some clear side repeaters

really didn't like the wheels that came on the car

picked up a cheap set of 16'' MG alloys off eBay , will run on these till the month end and then change the front tyres to get a bit of stagger

Image

Image

Just need to modify the centre caps to get the MG emblems off of them

Good move on the wheels.

They somehow make the car look more 'refined'. I like it!

Nice job man.
Any plans for engine modifications or you keeping it standard in that department?

So far the only mod I have made in the engine bay is to remove the pre cats and fit a shiny stainless steel manifold

Image

need to remove the heat shields as they are rattling quite a bit

Would love to go 2zz with this one

Wheels were a good swap, I don't like the first set either!

You should notice a bit more pokiness with the manifold change. :thumleft:
