[Mk2] [Turbo] MY IGNITION KEY BARREL IS BROKEN. NEED HELP.
As the title suggests, my ignition key barrel is knackered. One minute it was ok,the next, the key will not turn. I tried the spare key to see if this would work but this was just the same. I have tried spraying WD40 into the barrel aswell without any success. What i need to know is, what are my options?. Can i legally get a secondhand replacement,or would i need to contact a Toyota dealer and pay a silly money.Cheers Alan.

No problem getting another, but unless you change the lock barrel pins you will then need two keys for your car

I bought a full lock set from STB with ingition barrel for £40.
A new set from Toyota is £150 +vat
Havent changed them yet, but the ignition key is the quickest.
Only issue is I think you need to turn the key to the acc setting to be able to change the barrel.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. Managed to get a replacement barrel in the end , a friend who is a member of the MK4 supra club gave me the contact number of someone on their site who works on the parts counter for Toyota. Managed to get the part for £46 delivered. Know comes the fitting, which should be interesting?.Cheers Alan.

Some locksmiths can re-pin some lock barrels.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-MR2-MK ... 0707237553 - good starting point unless you're going to do the whole set!

Sorry to sound like an idiot but is this a common problem on mr2s and what actually causes the ignition barrel to break, being too harsh with it??
